Coach Mirko Slomka has welcomed Djourou, saying:
"After losing Felipe and Leon Andreasen (to injury), we needed to act defensively. With his physical robustness, his tactical understanding and his high level of commitment, I am convinced we will profit from having him."
Hannover are currently 11th in the Bundesliga.
Is he talking about Johan Djourou or someone else?

paying them well over what they would get at any other club

And rewarding them for achieving absolutely nothing thus far in their careers at Arsenal. Now there's an incentive for them to up their game in the future.

Wonder what all the Wenger Stays Brigade think now? (AKB as a term is now defunct as I refuse to believe that anybody thinks that "Arsene knows" these days. Just those that still think he shoud stay longer than 5 minutes.)
Those who praised his transfer policy, his policy of giving long term lucrative contracts to un-proven "squad" players. The rewarding of mediocrity. The long, lingering perserverence with players who patently, obviously would not work out.
Many posts on here praised Wenger for this policy of "tying down good young players", defended Djourou etc as "good squad players"..... FFS the team is full of "good squad players"
Now after all these years and Wenger (under pressure) has decided to offload some of these so-called "good squad players" and guess what? He cant. Why? Cause his ridiculous policy of overpaying them in an attempt to "tie them down worked. We cant get rid except on loan where we pay a fair proportion or their crazy wages........
And with the extended contracts to Ramsey and others we see that far from learn from his mistakes it seems to be de-ja-vu all over again...
Is there anybody, anybody who can defend Wenger over this? Anybody?

And this is a very significant point. The team selection at Bradford, playing Walcott up front, not chopping and changing the team in recent weeks and now trying to off load the dire rubbish he has stuck by for so long. All of these actions are as a result of a man under pressure and on the brink.

The Arsenal squad is starting to look empty with players leaving and other about to leave. I really hope there will be some players in otherwise if we have injuries in a few areas there could be problems.

As recently as pre-season Djourou was our captain. Now we're loaning him out.

We could have a squad full of Messi's and Wenger would still fail with them.

And all of the points above are massive uturns from the usual Wenger way.
Add to that signing decent Prem players like Arteta, established players like Poldi and Mert. Then we see the biggest uturn of all - saying we need a "British core" and making a big fanfare about the famous five new contracts. Where to fuck did that come from?

Marketing department.
Again I hate to look like a conspiracy theorist, but a couple things have made me really wonder over the last year or two:
1. Home kit & branding this year (
http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/up ... H6Hs_c.jpg) is very RAF / "British".
2. Cult of Chapman: almost EVERYTHING the club does lately has been trying to link to Chapman, including the silly "purple reign" away kits and the 'WM' image on the back of both the home and away kits - another English "hero". And now the club is trying to lock down their trademarks over the Art Deco logo (see: my avatar), which is also linked heavily to Chapman on the pravda.com site; probably because they want to do a retro line (even though that logo was re-popularized by the fan community and the club, for a while, had absolutely no interest in it; going so far as to let the trademark expire at one point).
It just seems like the club is really trying to make more money by restoring/using the very "English" heritage of the club.

Wow....never heard that before. Arsene thinks it will be a quiet market because there is little money available. Cut and paste any transfer window comments since 2008
Amazing how Liverpool without CL football managed to sign Sturridge for £12m within a day of the window opening.
This could actually prove to be the most disappointing transfer window of the lot for us which says a lot by Wenger standards. All the shit loaned out for a few months because nobody else will pay their wages and not a single new signing....even Zaha or Henry on loan.

For some reason this website has us linked to sign Toby Alderweireld.
