Wenger has given extended leave until 11 August to his three Germany World Cup winners – Mertesacker, Mesut Özil and Lukas Podolski – meaning that they will miss the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley on 10 August and stand to lack match fitness for the beginning of the Premier League season; Arsenal open at home to Crystal Palace on 16 August.
WTF - they'll likely not be match fit for the Everton game away, have ONE game at home to leceister, a week off for the international break, and then face CITY in an early kick off....

why not give them a break in October or November AFTER we've played Everton, City, Chavs and the Spuds ?

Walcott is already out too - really is same old same old. our pre-season preparation is piss poor every single year.
