Yes I am aware of that view as this is HARDLY the first time I have discussed or debated any of this issues, and it is a view or Board or club apologists eager to explain the possibility that the Board erred in its handling of this situation. I would suggest that reading between the lines the lines is fine when you are reading facts not an invented idea designed to obscure the facts.VforVictory wrote: Gunnerblog reflects a widely held view amongst fans and Arsenal "commentators/bloggers". I understand you putting documentary evidence above all else, but there is such a thing as "reading between the lines".

Why are we told Wenger is given a figure each summer for combined wages and transfers. Why do so many people around the club express wonder at Wenger's "control"?

But in all seriousness – here you acknowledged Mr. Wenger was instructed by the Board on what he could offer Ashley Cole which would suggest the Board was controlling just how - and therefore how much – the manager could actually spend, yet below you contradict yourself quite clearly. Very odd to say the least.
To answer that last most troubling question first – the idea that everything is Under Mr. Wenger’s control creates plausible deniability for the Board if and when they are actually questioned about their ambition – they can blame the manager, and since enough supporters simply want to believe the Board no matter the facts it divets a large number of supporters from questioning them. “Money is available to spend if the manager wants to spend itâ€
