Or maybe he just had the sense to see that the Villa job would be a bad move for his career.I Hate Hleb wrote:Therefore disproving the often repeated 'wouldn't we all go somewhere else if offered more money' myth, no? Not everyone is motivated by money, promotion or other such materialistic things.

Maybe, but I would suggest had the offer come from a big club with the potential for success then he would have been off.
Villa are in a bit of a mess at the moment and with key players eager to move on, it would have been a suicidal move for Martinez' long term future. Or maybe I'm just a cynical old git.

So even if his rejection was because he felt Villa were a shaky project which might do more harm to his prospects in the long run, it again proves my original point that, although very important, money isn't the most important thing to everyone!!
As for your second point - there's no 'maybe' about it!!

Re: Coquelin signed?
Apologies if done elsewhere.......just on radio that Arsenal value Jenkinson at £12m. If he's worth that why is he not in the team and on loan at West Ham ?
I quite like him but someone's got in wrong somewhere. Ditto Coquelin - potential to be decent DM but surely has to prove it over a longer period before instant new mega contract. Surely someone is bright enough to write a contract that steps up to that level after say 6m subject to performance - like real jobs?

Re: Carl Jenkinson signs....
I am sceptical that Arsenal are asking £12M for him.
Yes, he is a regular right back at a Premiership team and has been included with the England set up but his worth is valued by the demand for him, and I was be staggered if any of the top four clubs would be interested in him.
£5M would be about right given his young age and that as a possible benchmark, Afobe was recently sold for £2M.

At the end of his contract Reid is being touted by W Ham at £ 8 million , apparently rumour has it we offered £4 million for him , probably we have said £ 12 for Jenks as a reaction to their position . Probably/possibly a deal for Jenks plus a couple of million is on the cards. Or not.

Re: Carl Jenkinson signs....
Despite the apparent consensus that Jenkinson seems to have suddenly transformed into a world class RB at West Ham and the novelty that he can actually cross a ball, I still haven't seen anything to change my view that he'll never cut it for us.
Re: Carl Jenkinson signs....
Jenkinson is just another player that has got so far at the Arsenal and then has had his progress stall at the fringe of the first team .The only way for them to progress is to go on loan because of the lack of adult reserve competition . For him to develop to his potential he will need further loans , he is stated to be an Arsenal supporter whether that is enough to keep him involved with us I doubt as he has had a years taste of first team football and probably will not want to go back to the bench.

i think the 'suddenly' coincides with actually being coached in the position.northbank123 wrote:Despite the apparent consensus that Jenkinson seems to have suddenly transformed into a world class RB at West Ham and the novelty that he can actually cross a ball, I still haven't seen anything to change my view that he'll never cut it for us.
i have seen him play a cpouple of times on TV and the main difference is in his defending. his crossing is better too but not outstanding.
given his workrate, he would make a better DM than arteta or flamini. coq and jenko would be quite good i think in there.

Re: Carl Jenkinson signs....
Jenkinson gave an interview this week where he said that he was focussing on defending in training - marking and one vs one tackling drills.
He never mentioned Arsenal but am I being a bit cynical by reading between the lines....

Re: Carl Jenkinson signs....
No Quartz - I think he has improved as a defender since going to W.Ham for the pure and simple reason that he has been receiving coaching in 'How to defend' and not wenger's methods of 'tippy tappy it out of defence'
I like Jenkinson - he may not be world class by any means but when ever he played for us - he always gave 101% - which more than can be said for quite a number of players who have played for Arsenal such as eboue, denilson, bendybollocks, et al
I also think Allardyce - even though a slugcunt - will have ensured he knows what being a 'defender' truly means. I hope he (Jenko) makes it wherever he ends up.
