Exactly, none of those are anywhere near good enough bar Koscielny and he's hardly put in a sterling shout for a regular place with displays like Chelsea and Reading.

And I totally agree with that part - what I will also say is that earlier in the season we had kos alongside BFG and our defence looked really solid (as best as I can remember bouldie got all the credit  ) and the citeeh away game was a big example of that. Kos is clearly rusty and tuesday night was one of the worst performances from a centre back partnership that I have ever seen but I do believe that he is a more disciplned partner to play alongside bfg and his pace totally balances out our germans lack of it

The de facto capitain of the team seems to be Arteta already, no reason why we shouldn't make it official.

Vermaelen has got zero capitain skills, won't vibrate, scream, organize, nothing. Lots of players look dishearted too, players that were looking really good just 3months ago

Agree with that - he's one of the few that keeps me going. Best signing Wenger has made in years

Prefer the Arsenal screamer from Highbury actually.

I thought Koscienly was better than Vermaelen last season, although he's been poor in the few games he's played this season.

Steveo, you seem to have spent much of this season ripping the shit out of Mertesacker and Koscienly, and endlessly defending Vermaelen.

From where I'm sat, they all make individual and collective errors, so why are you so forgiving of Vermaelen's mistakes and totally all over the mistakes of others? - seems odd. I know we all have favourites, but still...

I'm not forgiving of TV5's mistakes at all. He's been pretty bloody shit at times - especially today - but everyone is giving the bloke loads of shit this season and want him out of the team, seemingly chosing to forget that Koscielny as recently as last week took part in 45 minutes of the most shambolic defending I've witnessed in our history. And Mertesacker was pathetic against Schalke - something people also seem to want to blot out of their memories as much as he blotted out any notion of picking up Huntelaar for their first goal.

So there you go, all three have made mistakes in very recent games. I point out all 3 of them, whilst 90% of people on here just resort to slating the bloke who shows more balls than the other 2 put together.

Fine lets play Koscielny from now on and take the armband away from TV5....and see where it gets us

If it wasn't for Arteta I don't know what would have happened to us last season. Every game he missed we had no shape defensively and couldn't create shit. Think he missed Swansea and United in Jan which were our two worst performances at the start of the year and when he had a rare stinker in the San Siro we fell to pieces. Also when he got injured at the end of the year we regressed so much.

Works hard, very passionate and very good to watch, without doubt one of my favourite players of the recent era and tbh if he was a few years younger we'd struggle to keep hold of him.

It's hard to think that if he hadn't been so motivated to better himself and pushed through the deal (at a pay cut) then we wouldn't have signed him because we're so fucking tight.

It's call "the diaby syndrome" mate - it is a little known disease that is not contagious but actually infects a large number of people although clearly it affects some people more than others. To be fair to steve o he is getting treatment for this afflication but by all accounts there is no quick fix to this problem and a long painful recovery lies ahead

Yep 100% drop TV5 and give Kos a run. Or while gibbs is out play TV5 as LB.
Dropping Santos is a separate issue - he could play Miquel there anyway, who is a much better option. I even think Francis Coquelin has showed more quality as a full back than Fatty Santos.

On what basis does Koscielny warrant a run of games - he's been absolutely fucking abject when he's played this season. At least TV5 is brave - we'll have the best non-tackling, non-heading CB partnership in the world if the BOG (Big Overrated German) and Ligue Deux pair up at the back
Mertesacker pisses all over Vermaelen as a CB.

Kos has pulled TV out of quite a few holes and yes while he isn't playing as well as last season (Who is?), he was by far and a way our best CB last season and deserves a better run................
SteveO 35 wrote:There were only two choices for me - Koscielny and Szezcny - they have played nearly all the games and more often than not have performed very well. Some of the others there have done well in patches but haven't played well enough regularly to be considered.

Koscielny edges it though. Very happy to be proved wrong about old "Ligue Deux" :D

Well done you - so you've brought up a quote from when a bloke was playing well last season !! So that automatically means we forget present form and stick him in the side now then

By that token, the next time Wilshere has a poor game we should drop him and bring in Rosicky because he played really well six months ago.

What's your point?

My point is answering your question above mate. And I think I've answered it.
Yes hes not playing as well as last season but he deserves a run cause TV5 has regressed to the point that he has become a liability.

So TV5 who played well last season but has not played well this season should be dropped in favour of.....

Koscielny who played well last season but has not played well this season.

That's me told.

Can't be bothered arguing the point anymore. If you think that improving our defence and the morale of the team will come from dropping our captain in favour of a bloke last seen scratching his head when Jason Roberts turned him inside out before scoring ANOTHER own goal, then fine. We'll leave it there. You'll get your wish in time because everyone is getting on Vermaelen's case and making him and Ramsey the two scapegoats for everything, and we'll come back here when the dream team of Mertesacker and Koscielny are putting their bodies on the line for the team and compare notes

If we are going on present form then TV5 should deffo be dropped.
