Olivier Giroud - Another Alan Smith or "Le Chapman"?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Good striker for a shit team in my view. If you're down near the bottom of the table and set your team up geared towards him as the main man then he'll score you goals and quite possibly be the difference between staying up or not. Problem is he'll soak up all your chances in the process, and although he can finish clinically he also misses far too many. Agbonlahor has stopped scoring since he went there, and although they did lose some of their best players it's difficult to think of another Villa player that has prospered since Bent has been there. When he was at Spurs and asked to fight for his place and be part of a team he couldn't hack it or find his feet.

If the team can work to get him about 6 yards closer to the goal before passing to him then I am condident that, given time, he can hit begin to hit the target and working opposition keepers.

Lets not give up on this guy just yet. He could prove to be deadly from a yard or two given the service.

I see in one of the online articles Giroud is being referred to as "the french son of Lee Chapman".

Must have been before my time but is this comparison merited?

Everything in Football is Under the microscope at the moment. What Giroud needs is for someone to have a 3-4 week injury and him to get a run of games where he knows he is going to play every game for a month no matter what. Even Chamakh looked impressive when RVP was injured 2 seasons ago as he knew he was going to get a run of games. Did he score 6-8 goals in the 2 month period that R$P was out. Patience!

Lee was the worst striker we actually paid any money for ever !
Missed more sitters than Chris way hay Wreh ,Chris Kiyomya, Kaba Diawara, and Nial Quin put together, and all in the space of less than 30 odd games !

Utter cack he was when at us !

Doubt he'll sink to Chapman's level, but he's already got a bigger pout than Leslie Ash.

I know it won't go down well with the 'disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' brigade but I was feeling in a little sing song mood this afternoon, so put on your earphones and have a little sing-along

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfTrthOpKCA

Giroud, you’re really bad.
Take a through ball, past that defender.
Remember, when he gives you a head start
Then you can start, to finish better.

Giroud, now I’m afraid
You were made to, make us much better
The minute you let it bounce off your shin,
Then we all think, Chapman was better

And anytime you feel like playin’, Giroud refrain,
Don’t carry that hod, upon your shoulders.
For well you know you looked a fool, at Liver-pool
By making Chamakh, look that much bolder

Giroud, don’t take us down.
You have found Per, can finish better
Remember we loaned out our Ju-Young Park,
But you’re shit start, makes him look better.

We’ve left you out then put you in, Giroud, begin,
You wait for the League Cup to perform in.
And don't you know that in League Two, Giroud, you'll do,
The movement you show’s of one much older

Giroud, don't take it bad.
Cos we sold Song to pay you better.
Remember when we are fifteen months in,
Then you'll begin “to adapt”
Better better better better better better, oh.

Na na na na na ,na na na, Giroud

Wondering whether a warning or straight ban is most appropriate for that!

Feel free to sing every last line of it after that horror showing again tonight. I thought Kanu was a 6'4" weakling......jesus, to watch this bloke getting bossed around by two journeymen like Turner and Bassong tonight was a fucking embarrassment.

That swing and a miss effort near the end was the crowning moment of embarrassment. People are no doubt going to mention the knock down for Gnabry at the end - FFS, that's all the fella's got. He reminds me of Ian Ormondroyd who played for Villa 15-20 years ago. A paceless beanpole, with the physical strength of a stringbean but he'll delight the masses with a flick on or two

Bring back Baba.........Giroud is shit.......FACT !
