An urgent plea to Arsene supporters..

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Honesty from Arsene is so rare id be delighted if he admitted we couldn't win the league, we all know it anyway so why bullshit?

a Fowler or an Owen came out of Liverpool's youth team
and they made a couple of good signings, they could still win the league
I really don't see a standout team (Chelski + Falcao is scary)

was just saying Wenger was honest about CL qualification > cups
therefore you must be delighted?

People claim they want 'honesty' but wail if they don't like what they're told

Still not got to grips with the concept of 4th place taking priority over 1st
focusing on the league is focusing on the league...

On what level? Wenger has always focused on league place "consistency" as his barometer
If you think our manager and board can deliberately compete just enough for 4th
but not a bit more, score 51% on the test every season, you must believe we're "naturally" world beaters
I think, for most of the last decade, we've been 'all-out' to achieve what we did

My criticisms of the last few years are small details, some probably with the benefit of hindsight
That said, where we are now financially, in the sponsorship cycle, and in terms of squad quality
I would see post Xmas reliance on our youth and backup players as a huge and reckless gamble

So seling our best players and not sufficiently replacing them is 'small detail'? and while we are on that subject selling our best players and not replacing them with similar or god forbid even better  is going ' all out' is it?

Of course it isn't, we've done just enough to get into the top 4 never pushed to try and win the damn thing, even when we stood a decent chance in 2007 or 2008 he didn't strengthen in January (as us supposed untrained eyes could see we needed) and look what happened and what do we hear? Arsenal have made it into the champions league for 15 consecutive years etc etc etc ....Season before last we came 4th in a two horse race and what did he say when we were second? 'I'd be happy if we came 2nd for the next 20 seasons'..... Yeah JD 'all out' ambition and also very inspiring to the team

You want us to borrow money to invest in the team,
our current wage bill has been sustained through player trading

I believe, structurally, that was an excellent, and cleverly executed, system
2014 the game changes financially for us.
Now I to want us to borrow and invest.

Not exactly "small detail" is it? and no reference to the lack of perceived ambition either

perceived ambition meaning what? I can only think: borrow more money...
either not selling, or buying, meant borrowing more money

I agreed with board's believe that generating further debt wasn't a good idea
I now think we're at a different stage in the cycle
and that some short-term debt is justifiable in order to maximise returns on the new sponsorship deals

we NEED CL football for the next two years
winning any trophy gives us a little boost in terms of negotiating strength

That doesnt mean that because we dont like the truth we would prefer to be lied to though surely?
