In 03/04 we only spent a couple of million on Mad Jens if I remember correctly. That season turned out ok

Not that I'm saying he should keep the powder dry now!

I wonder what the odds are on Sanogo ever playing 10 games for us?

A few nominal fees but we spent big on Reyes in January. Although we would have won the league anyway he scored important goals at Portsmouth and Fulham to maintain the unbeaten record at the end of the season and in addition to being the sole reason we knocked Chelsea out of the FA Cup he also scored the goal against them at home in the CL that should have sent us through.

Although we could and arguably should have won the treble that season, the signing of Reyes galvanised us just as a signing in Jan 2008 might have done...

Contrary to public opinion Wenger didnt buy either Jeffers or Richard Wright Mr Dein did as he did Berkamp and Platt .b4
Wenger had agreed to buy Dudek from Feyenoord who nearly sued us as we had agreed the fee and he was at Highbury having passed the medical waiting for the signing ceremony only to be sent Home !
Theres more thsn a whiff of scandal about both deals ..............alledgedly !

I never heard of the Dudek thing. Thanks for informing for me! Just did a bit of Googling and this is what Dudek said:

"I was in talks with Wenger. It was basically all agreed. I came back to Feyenoord with hope that the clubs will agree a fee, but Feyenoord wanted £10 million pounds. Wenger was only willing to give £7 million... Two months later Liverpool bought me for £5 million. That’s when Wenger contacted me and my agent and asked why didn’t Feyenoord sell me for £7 million earlier but accepted £5 million from Liverpool. I was very close to playing for the team, the team which won a lot of trophies."

This ones nearer the mark

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/articl ... -dock.html

The deal was done from the sellers point Wenger met Dudek terms agreed ,had the medical and were waiting for the Nod from Dein.
Dein then calls Wenger up and says Ive signed Richard Wright end of.
It should be noted that the Owners of Ipshit the Cobbolds and Arsenal Hillwoods were on very good terms with each other Peter went to Eton with one of them and fathers too,I've always smelt a rat on this one but have no direct proof.
In those days Wenger said who he wanted and Dein did the deal, these things have changed .

I remember a 3-3 with Blackburn, every goal was his fault.
We destroyed them but all 3 times they got in our half, Wright threw one in
he was dreadful

Everyone signs shit players. Wenger did well with that shot Ipswich keeper that I will never forgive for Poyets goal
recognised it shipped him out
Almunia on the other hand...

We took a £3m loss on the chocolate wristed, jug-eared moron though! :D Almunia's career at Arsenal is unfathomably ridiculous.

any coach who hangs around for the best part of two decades will have loads of bad signings
secret to being a good gambler isn't always winning. It's minimising losses and maximising the wins.
There's no excuse for Almunia.

When he scores his 1 goal, SQ Park style, against some no-hopers in the League Cup no doubt the media will claim Wenger has unearthed another gem before he pisses off on loan to Salamanca
