Gooneroonie, the words were as follows:

God save our gracious Queen,
She loves the Arsenal team,
God save our Queen.

She doesn’t like West Ham,
Chelsea or Tottenham........Scum
She only likes the Arsenal
God save our Queen!

The Arsenal, The Arsenal

It did sound quite good but the Scum after Tottenham didn't seem to work in my opinion.

You were not alone in being lashed up in the Rocket.

If the enthusiasm shown on this thread is anything to go by then I think an anthem stands a great chance of success. People should be patient though as the the gooner/RedAction will have a lot of work to do to convince the club. And whatever is chosen won't catch on in the first week of the season!

I've listened to "impossible dream" many times now and it doesn't do it for me. "My Way" is certainly a possible. For me though "Danny Boy" would still be the best (albeit that it was my suggestion!). Its easy to sing (with or without the PA intro/words on screen), gets those hairs standing up on the back of neck & is massively popular. Bloody hell, even the OAP's in the crowd would sing along to that one! In the early 1980's Barry McGuigan won the world middleweight title at QPR (apol's if I'm wrong on weight or venue!). His dad sang "Danny Boy" before the bout & the crowd joined in on the chorus. There is no way the lad was ever going to lose after that. If you get the chance, listen to it and see what you think....

'Danny Boy' is a wonderful tune, but isnt it something of a Gaelic song? But then I suppose the whole point of this idea was that it didnt really matter where it comes from. Also, its associated with funerals if im not mistaken! But you are right, having a crowd sing it would sound powerful.

to be honest...im sure there are enough true arsenal fans to make this work....

now im 24....only been to highbury once....never been to the grove....(money issues...for both) im not a plastic fan....i even remember the bruce rioch season (bloody hell)

what im saying...is if we can be united on a song....get a big group to sing it...and hope people join in....thats great....if the song is then sung week in week out....believe me it will catch on....even a fan such as myself...would sing along with passion....class shouldnt be an issue at the end of the day....day supporters should watch it at home on sky sports if they dont want to join in....ive heard cases of dirty looks from my m8s with season tickets...when they start to sing or whatever....

it has to be the right song....and in my opinion...danny boy...love the song...but its ties to ireland and funerals are very strong....

ive grown to like impossible dream...but i dont think it works....its too long...

my way/bridge are front runners in my opinion....the national anthem remix is also good....we just need to get behind our team....i couldnt believe the lack of noise from a sell out 60k....

i know its our first season, i know we need to build an atmosphere...but this is our chance to get the wheels in motion...next season im planning to go to quite a number of home games....whatever is sung...i'll be there singing...(please choose bridge:))

in closing....if we can get enough people to campaign this....it will work...end of

Sounded mint with only a couple of hundred singing – could work.

PS. Apologies if I got some of the words wrong – was lashed!

I dare say there are many people on this forum who have "ties to Ireland" so your point is...! Anyway, Impossible Dream was written by two American's, but no-one has seen fit to dismiss it as a result. I'm sure the club might have had an issue if it had been a Greek or Turkish Cypriot song, but it isn't so they won't!

And the most popular song sung with gusto by all football fans is also....believe it or not.... extremely popular at funerals.... "Abide With Me"!!!!

So I'd still like to see "Danny Boy" up there in the running! And if you are still unsure then maybe Peter Kaye can convince you (DB is at the end): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsUCPki6 ... ed&search=

yeh, theres a difference between having strong ties to a country, and being written by americans...

dream/bridge isnt synonymous with america...it was written and sung by americans....my way has strong ties to new york/manhattan i guess...

"my point is" i dont think its the right song....so what if many people here have ties to ireland? most of my friends have ties to ireland....most of them hate danny boy....whats ur point?

I think the Impossible Dream's lyrics are the dogs bollocks, and people are saying it's too slow which is understandable, but believe me, we will speed it up. YNWA is always sped up by the Scousers.

As for London calling, it sounds like a bloody pop song?! No chance something with such tempo and speed will catch on as a 'spine chilling' song.

I can see 60k or even 20k fans singing ID at Emirates.... it will sound amazing, should deffo be put forward to redaction/arsenal.... to reach the unreachable star.....

I wasnt suggesting London's Calling as an anthem, I suggested it for when the team comes out or during the announcing of the team

I hope to God this doesnt catch on. Such a boring tune.

And doesnt anyone think just starting to sing the impossible dream all of a sudden will sound a little bit silly? It has no connection to Arsenal what so ever. The reason why YNWA works so well is because it has so much history and attachment to Liverpool.

Just picking a random song to become our 'anthem' just like that will never work. It has to have some relevance to Arsenal. Words to songs will have to be changed if they will catch on.

That is an interesting link to see how Liverpool fans came up with that new song of theirs. Find a song with a good, catchy tune (not god save the f'ing queen) and put words to it that relate to Liverpool and spread it around/sing it in the ground till it catches on.

There is no doubt that we do need some new, original songs. The only songs that are sung with any volume at AB are Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal etc, by far the greatest team, stand up if you hate and Adebayor. A very sorry state of affairs.

For all the good Redaction have done in getting some singing going (god knows what it would be like without them) imo they should have come up with a few new songs. Easier said than done I know, but as fans we are so unoriginal and un creative. And they have such a good opportunity to do it, sitting together home and away and the rocket etc.

Personally I would like to see us singing 'maybe its because im a londoner'. This used to be sung at away games in the 80s. Problem with it is that obviously not everyone is a Londoner, so perhaps change the words to
Maybe it's because im an Arsenal fan
That I love Arsenal so,
Maybe it's because I'm an Arsenal fan
That I think of her wherever I go.
I get a funny feeling inside of me
Just walking up and down.
Maybe it's because im an Arsenal fan
That I love Arsenal so.

Best link I could find.

Personally I think that could catch on and would be a decent song to sing. Simple and catchy. Could obviously add the bits like 'get off my sister' etc. Better than a corny song like the impossible dream with nothing to do with Arsenal imo.

Anyway, to the people who are organising this good job. Someone has to do something.

THE perfect song for us to come out to. Just imagine the crowd starting to roar when they hear it kick in. Spine tingling. Better than f'ing Kasabian.
