I agree with this, NOW, as the 2014 sponsorship reups approach - we should be moving to that level
that said IMO it wasn't the case as we tried to cover the stadium move costs and stay afloat
should be beyond that stage now

I don't think you understood my post, mate (although I do accept it's probably wrong of people to dismiss Wenger's remarkable consistency)

My argument (which you seemed to agree with) is that 4th (or 5th, if we're being very generous) is probably par for Arsenal. It's NOT par for 99% of other managers, so obviously their achievements shouldn't be "dismissed" for not finishing 4th or above.

They cannot be judged on the same criteria. It would be crazy to dismiss the achievement of a manager of a lower club for not achieving CL qualification, in the same way it would be daft to think Di Matteo or Mancini are super managers for keeping their outrageously rich clubs in the top 4.

The success or failure of a manger is relative to what's reasonable.

Wenger can't spend £25m on one player. It would contradict his "no value in the market" mantra. Plus big players have big egos.

How about a bit of tennis speak then?

I fancy Arsenal to reach the League Cup semi-final in straight sets........6-1, 7-5, 6-2

Red Member IS Wenger!
“We lost a game, that is all. The football aspect was easy to explain. We gave everything in Udinese in 35C at night three days before, and I knew that we would be dead. We lost vital defensive players in that game. We went out very exposed, but the most important game of the week was at Udinese.

I think I'd rather have Red as manager. Come to think of it I'd rather have Steve Kean as manager

Poor, poor management yet again. From the decision to play Santos at LB and not Vermaelen, the playing of Ramsey at right wing, not taking JW off when it was obvious he was gonna be off.

Unmotivated, uninspired, slow, laboured non-football from the manager of the decade.

But have to give Man U credit - better team, better players, better manager. They outplayed us in every dept.

Terrible decision regarding starting line-up. Wilshere, Arteta and Cazorla are miles better than Cleverley and Carrick but due to our complete lack of tactics we managed to nullify our only advantage over United. So so so predictable, the only surprise was that he actually made a sub after 50 minutes (even if he should have been on from the start).

When we used to sing about Arsene Wenger's magic hat little did I know that it had the powers to make all of our best players disappear

The problem is that every defeat just reduces expectations of Arsenal in the future and it's those expectations by which Wenger then judges himself. It's a farcical situation to be in.

It's Wenger that is responsible for setting the bar lower and lower every year, nothing else.

Someone else just posted that this is now our worst first 10 PL games since 1994. Difference back then was that we treated cups seriously.
