To be honest their defensive players simply aren't good enough to play 3-5-2 even after the painful transitional period imo but they definitely can't justify the upheaval if they can't get Mata, van Persie and Rooney firing. Early doors but they just did not click at all.

There is a tremendous amount of pressure on the wing-backs in 3-5-2 because not only do they need to contribute defensively, but the team relies on them for attacking width. Valencia looks a shadow of the player he was, like Sagna he seems to be scared to take people on.
"Shadow of player he was"? Thought you would have come around by now to the fact that Valencia has always been shit. Bit of pace was his only saving grace really.

I wish we had gone in for Di Maria.

Ozil and Di Maria on the wings with Alexis and Giroud/someone better up front.

At that price,we could get Cavani and a reserve CB. No thanks.

60m for a winger when they already have Mata, is odd.

VG is like AW - he needs TWO DM's.

so much for the captaincy 'inspring' rooney. he looks like he can't be arsed already. wait til december when the lovely Colleen is on the beach in Barbados.

We've got enough fucking wingers already without playing a £42m player out of position there and spending another £60m.

Blood_Gooner plenty of players have simplistic but hugely effective skillsets. Valencia has never been a tremendous all-round player but there were a few seasons when he was skinning full-backs and putting goals on a plate for Rooney week in week out.

£60m on Di Maria and they've still got Jones, Smalling and Evans as the 3 centre halves plus the work permit kid

I saw on the news that they were lsoing so I fired up a stream to have a quick laugh.

They look shit. You'd struggle to tell which is the PL team. Di Maria must be so happy-

van Gaal will really be eyeing up the League Cup. Even for United it is a very winnable competition with the selection liberties no European football allows. Winning a trophy - even a Mickey Mouse won - will ingratiate him with fans and pundits alike and will buy him a lot more time for his experiment which is looking like it is going to be pretty slow going.

Di Maria obviously has had some excellent PR advice - apparently United are the only club he would have left Real for

The line up for United shows that they are not really taking this seriously.
I haven't heard of half of their players tonight.

Bit surprising considering this is there best chance of a trophy.
