ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Deal agreed for Zinchenko £30m +£2m add on.
So, we've finally changed tact in the transfer market. Signed 2 experienced Premier League players, who have been important squad members in a multiple title winning team. Both are mid-twenties. Both coming into their peak. Both already worked with Arteta at City.
This is progress. Now if we focus on either Tielemans or Paqueta then, well...then we have a serious squad that can challenge and hopefully bring in a mentality that turns the squad from perennial bottlers, to perennial winners.
It feels like we're turning the corner. No Chelsea pensioners.

I don't think Zinchenko is brought in to replace Tierney in a flat back four. He's looked better in a midfield four/ three. One more midfield signing and then I can see players being moved on to balance the books. With Zinchenko on board, we might finally get to see Martinelli move to CF, a role in which I think he will become world class.
Also, wouldn't be surprised to see Ben White move to DM every now again as cover for Partey. Vieira looks like a Rosicky/ Cazorla type midfielder or dare I say Artetaesque. Tielemans would be Xhaka's replacement if purchased. We'll have decent cover for every position. Has Died Spence signed for the spuds yet? If we could nab him from under their noses that would be ace!

It is only mid July and I am conscious of that when I say this, but wtf are you talking about ?? Forget about the top 2 teams in the division cos they are light years ahead of us, but can you say that we have made up ground on either the scum or the chavs ? No fcuking chance. Kills me to say it, and again I recognise that it is only mid July, but the scum have been far and away the top performers in this transfer window SO FAR, and kills me to say it but the handbag wearing fairy is a big upgrade on fat lukaku for the chavs, and koulibaly is serious upgrade on over-rated rudiger for them too imo.
I keep asking those Gooners enjoying their wankfest of transfer window to name me the starting 11 if the season was starting tomorrow and assuming everyone is fit - I think we would see ONE change to the starting team (jesus) from last season, so what exactly are we going to challenge for ? Our attacking squad depth has been boosted for sure, but we are still nowhere near good enough in centre midfield, have zero depth in full back positions, have a sub-standard/shite manager, and I still feel we are lacking a top quality number 9 - I feel that the number 9 position has been upgraded (not enough though), but the bar was set low last season tbh, and no other starting position has been upgraded imo

He's talking about mentality. And according to reports, Jesus has integrated well into the group and is raising the bar in training. When you bring quality players in, it has that effect. The same thing happened in the early Wenger years, every summer we brought in decent signings mainly thanks to David Dein.Redarmy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:49 amIts the perennial winners quote that gets me....augie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:37 amNos89 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 12:02 amDeal agreed for Zinchenko £30m +£2m add on.

Not surprised that one sentence is jumped on instead of treating it as part of an overall opinion.
Zinchenko is a quality signing no doubt, he will get a lot of game time either LB or Midfield depending on the team setup.
We are looking at Paqueta or Tielemans, Paqueta is my preference. He's strong on the ball, has great close control, and bags of skill.
Have we got a top 4 squad yet? Probably not, but I am not at the Augie slit my wrists at any sign of action coming out of the club in the window.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Arsenal are planning for next steps to unveil Oleksandr Zinchenko as new signing. He could leave Manchester City camp later today, in order to join Arsenal and complete medical tests.
#AFC
First and second part of Zinchenko’s medical will take place this week.
Fabrizio Romano: "Everton also wanted him (this summer) but Zinchenko only gave the green light to Arsenal thanks to Mikel Arteta.

For me, Zinchenko is primarily a replacement for Xhaka but obviously able to deputise at LB if needed (
)...............sorry, when needed for 6 months a season.
Maybe it's just desperation that Xhaka goes, but all the latest reports suggest that we are to sell a midfielder before we sign another - after we get Zinchenko and still we are being linked with Tielemans so It has to be Partey or Xhaka going and I'm not sure we'll be able to sell Partey at the moment for some reason.........

Confidence from winning games creates a winning mentality and a strongly driven motivator as manager...as for the current squad we are nowhere near a position to make a title challengenut flush gooner wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 10:07 amHe's talking about mentality. How many games did we see last season when we desperately needed a result and the players started at half pace seemingly uninterested?
To be honest 6th place would be the most likely finishing position
As i have previously said Jesus looks quality...but its early days, although as you say bringing in quality does raise the bar
We need another striker or we will struggle with scoring enough...can Martinelli step up..time will tell?
Not sure we will get Tielmans as Man Utd are now looking at him, but hes useful
Signings so far are maintaining our current position as Utd and scum have also strengthened
Think this season will be much the same as the last one
The project goes on.........

There has been nothing, absolutely zero, to suggest that xhaka is on his way out of the team much less the club TeeCee, and I suspect it is just wishful thinking on your behalf - the swiss turd was on his way out when the basque muppet begged him to stay, and now there isnt even a single club being linked with him.

My comments were in response to nonsense talk about challenging - I havent seen anyone that finished behind us last season do anything so far this summer that suggests that they will overtake us this season, so I am nowhere near slitting my wrists thank you. There seems to be zero recognition on here that the positions that we were weak in last season have still not been addressed, and that surprises me tbh - problem is though that it takes recognition from the manager of where the weaknesses are, and he is inept in that regard
