The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

In fairness, Valdes isn't your typical number 2. He's been injured for a long time and he's understudy to (arguably) the best goalkeeper in the world in De Gea.

Also, it was his choice to leave Barca where he was number 1 so I don't think it's fair to dismiss him like that.

I would like an upgrade on Ospina though. Absolutely.

I don't pay much attention to world football these days, so I don't know which keepers are top class and which are likely to be available.
- People on here used to rave about a Russian called Akaneev (?) but I haven't heard anything about him in ages. :?

Ospina: 47 saves and 8 clean sheets in 18 league matches

Courtois: 74 saves and 12 clean sheets in 32 league matches
Hart: 87 saves and 14 clean sheets in 34 league matches
De Gea: 93 saves and 10 clean sheets in 37 league matches

All indications this far are that he is in fact good enough.

ROFL @ stats.
I will use my eyes thank you very much, because using stats alone, Chesney was joint best keeper in the league a year ago
Ospina is pony, sorry. I can name off the top of my head, monumental errors he's made this season: Gomis header v Swansea, his fault. Carrasco 3rd goal for Monaco, 100% his fault. WBA woeful performance, again his fault. Charlie Austin goal at QPR, again his fault. Flying out charging against Palace in stoppage time, almost throwing the game. Palming the ball straight out to Kane to tap in the equaliser at Spuds. No top keeper makes that many fuck-ups in a single season.
To make things worse, unlike Courtois and DDG, who genuinely win points, I can't recall a single time Ospina saved Arsenal. Not once.

Stats? Yeah, they're a nonsense sorry.

Almunia had 70 clean sheets in 175 appearances for Arsenal.
By comparison, De Gea - arguably the best keeper in Europe - has under 60 in 175 Man U appearances.

Using your "logic", Almunia appears to be a better keeper then DDG :rubchin:

Don't bring De Gea into the argument, yes, arguably one of the best keepers in Europe now but if we was having this discussion in his first year at United you could argue that he looks just as ropey as Ospina and now look at him.

Not sticking up for Ospina but I would much rather have him in goal than that other plank but that's not saying much.

Agreed. DeGea was absolute pony in his first season with massive media speculation about his future.

Regarding Ospina - he's the lesser of two evils to some extent. Ospina has done ok. The fact he spends a lot of games with a 9 foot 11 inch coward in front of him can't help of course. But I'd take Ospina ahead of Chesney any day of the week.

The top top Keepers, like the top top strikers, are confidence players, more than any other positions in a team, because they are in the spotlight more often and any touches of genius or disaster can win or lose games. They need a decent run of games to build that confidence. Not all of them will of course, but the only way to find out if they have what it takes is to play them.

Sods law is we got a keeper with all the confidence in the world, too much even that he's given up trying to back it up on the pitch

Vidal isn't coming...
I remember quite a number of posters saying that about Alexis Sanchez last summer.

We need a keeper. Ospina is solid and unspectacular so that makes him a good no2.

I've given up on Sczezny so if it was my choice, into the market we go!!

When the defence is having an off-day or we make a mistake, we need a keeper that can keep, for example, Gomis' header out. Critical points here and there make all the difference, we all know this.

If you're a believer in things happening in 3s, how about this...

1. Prince George is born. Heir (hair :? )to the throne.
2. England cricket team announce Trevor Babyliss as head coach.
2. Arsenal sign Vidal (Sassoon :? )

Just a thought :?

Benzema isn't coming....

Dybala was never coming
http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer ... tus-dybala

Now just waiting for Wenger to rubbish the Vidal speculation and we'll be in for a classic Wenker transfer window!
"We are not in for anyone at the moment", "prices are dizzying", "I cannot find anyone better than Giroud and co", "the answer is not always to buy", "internal solutions", "I'm sorry Sanogo didn't cost €50million"
