The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

How is that any different to playing Jenkinson?

Bizarre move to fix that position.

I, for one, would fucking love this if it came off. The man changes games.

Balotelli would be a massive mistake. When he can be arsed he will do well but will that be before he gets sent off for being a petulant child and not giving a fuck about putting in a shift. If no manager has been able to calm him down what makes people think Mr pat you on your back after a shocking game will be able to.

I didn't think anyone would be coming early in this transfer window, but if Sky Sports keeping bringing me these hourly updates with Kate Abdo I might have to change that prediction

Although the circumstances were different, I think Cesc is in a similar boat to Ozil last summer... and I reckon he'd be wrong to leave Barca without a fight. Leaving is doing an Ozil, and taking the easy way out. If it's the club you love.... stay and fight.
Kind of hard to stay and fight when your own fans have turned on you and the club wants you gone...
Hard yes, but if it's the club of your dreams... stick it out and prove them wrong.
He fought so hard to get there that he really should show a bit more backbone, managers come and go.

He was always viewed as a long term replacement for Xavi and Iniesta, surely now is not the time to run off with his tail between his legs???

Fans turn, 12 months ago Scousers were angry at Suarez.
Spot on.

If Cesc leaves Barca now, can he really say he gave everything to make it at his boyhood club?

Not really. He looks to be leaving without a fight. And with that in mind, I'll lose a bit of respect for him if he moves to the chavs this summer.

However, that doesn't change the fact that we're complicit in him ending up down the road, as we're willing to make the mother of all fuck-up decisions by rejecting him despite the MANY great reasons to sign him. Hell, never mind sign him... I'd make him captain.

People say we're well stocked in the number 10 role, but Cesc would instantly be an upgrade on all of them. Cazorla has played most of his career wide left or right, so that's fine... whereas Ozil isn't a number 10 - he doesn't like shooting ffs (even when taking penalties he doesn't shoot... he passes) and unless your number 10 is a goalscorer, how can we ever expect to match Citeh and Liverpool for goals?

Also, havign already made the move to his dream club (Barca), Cesc would almost certainly be returning to Arsenal to play out not only the best years of his career but the twilight of his career too... and as he's never had pace, that could mean 6-7 years service with him slowly dropping into centre midfield a la Pirlo.

Point being.... Bring back Cesc! :banghead:

I reckon the opposite. I think that he would be an excellent signing and exactly what we need. Wenger has past histories with potential bad boys and tamed them. He could also play off of Giroud, in place of him and with him.

Not that I believe for a second that we'd buy someone like him, but if they did get him and also bought Remy and a defensive midfielder, I'd really be optimistic on next season. Even if we didn't buy a right back and promoted Bellerin and Jenkinson.

Hmm. You don't mean Gallas and Adebayor do you? Two of the most despicable :censored: ever to wear an Arsenal shirt and two names I wish I could remove from our history.

Signing Balotelli probably appeals to Wenger's ego of trying to prove he can do things with players no other manager can but Balotelli needs discipline and Wenger isn't that kind of manager.

Noises beginning to get louder about Balotelli and Remy. If we signed both of those, I'd be content with our striking options.

I wouldn't want either of them.
