THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I found this funny "“Where we are currently is off the shoulder of the world’s top teams"
Yes Ivan, off the shoulder and falling.
He's delusional - never has our club been in so much disarrary on the field - still can't beat the PL top four, or spurs at home FFS, nor bloody dortmund, and still have the largest injury list for about three full seasons, and still can't make it out of the last 16 in the CL. let alone to the last 4....

as the AST say in the article below it " the money is in the bank, and a lot of money has been spent, the focus is now firmly and unequivocably on the Managers' ability to manage...:"

which i like a lot - because its attacking wenger in front of the board in terms they understand - that wenger is possibly wasting 'their' money.

if as i suspect we finish 5th next year, and bog out of the CL as we usually do, they have a very valid argument to the board - " he finished 4th and said he could do better if the money was spent. well, it was spent and he did no better/or worse".

pees.

i love that lazy ivan and wonga are lauding our 5million pound training ground upgrade as 'progress'....meanwhile City are due to open their 200 million quid training complex with accommodation on campus for ALL youth players to keep them out of the pubs and clubs and focused on their development, separate medical, leisure, educational and fitness facilities for each team level, and a 7,000 seater stadium where the reserves and youth teams will play all home games.

the first team will also train the day before games on a pitch that matches the size, slope, grass length and temperature of their next game....

based of course on the Real Madrid, Bayern and Ajax youth campuses.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1784 ... ng-complex

btw FWIW planning permission was granted by the MCC council in 2011, and we get new paint three years later....

yes Ivan, we 'are on the shoulder on European giants' and not dinosaurs. obviously :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Isn't it funny? We moved to the emirates because we wanted to compete against the best in Europe and yet 8 years down the road we are competing against the likes of spurs and Everton for the third spot

The AGM for Arsenal is a waste of time and utterly useless. Whatever was asked and said there is not going to change anything

no more mr nice guy apparently :

http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/85/engla ... -arsenals-

this is interesting :
Wenger set up the team to be cautious. The fullbacks were told not to push too far forward. Santi Cazorla was selected for the No10 role ahead of Mesut Ozil because he was regarded as fitter and better able to track midfield runners. Mathieu Flamini and Jack Wilshere were urged to stand their ground against Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic in midfield.

For a third of the match, Wenger's plan worked to perfection. There was nothing between the sides. On the sidelines, the manager epitomized his team's aggression by shoving Mourinho in an unseemly touchline fracas. Arsenal was up for the fight.

But Wenger's anger at Mourinho was nothing compared to his fury with his players in the events leading up to Eden Hazard's penalty that put Chelsea 1-0 up. The players, Wenger felt, had not followed orders.

Three players - Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs - were singled out for criticism by the manager in a furious dressing-room tirade following the eventual 2-0 defeat.

Wenger rounded on the trio for what he claimed were avoidable individual mistakes in the build-up to the penalty won and then converted by Hazard. He pointed the finger at Sanchez and Gibbs for losing possession and Cazorla for failing to bring down Hazard outside the box. They just listened quietly to his criticisms.

The last time Wenger had been seen as angry in front of his players was said to be a 2-0 home defeat to Swansea in Dec. 2012.

He felt his team's game plan had been perfectly tailored for the specific assignment on the day. But his players had let him down.

It reflected a subtle, but crucial, change to Wenger's dealings with his players in the last two seasons. He has become even more ruthless, even less forgiving.
maybe its just another PR push from pravda, but re-reading that first paragraph several times definitely reads as if wenger used tactics against the chavs ??????

its worth a read anyway - i disagree about Sanchez, but i'm 100% on Ozil - not fit enough for the Prem by a long way. Caz does deserve that spot right now.

So this is his first rant at the players since the Swansea game in 2012?

What did he say when they were running around like headless chickens in the big away games last season?

Apparently he hid in the bogs mate - all the players went looking for him but he'd locked himself in - knowing full well we were in the middle of a gang butt rape and there was f*ckall he could do.

the article said he sat there quietly as he doesn't like to dent their confidence. smh :banghead:

tbf the 442 answer today was a bit of shock too - he said " he is open to the idea and is now talking at great length about the pros and cons. He promises we will see it during the season when Olivier Giroud is fit and is able to play with Danny Welbeck. "

about 2 years too fucking late for Pod mind, but still.... :?
