SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just means that we will be matched by Utd / Chelsea and lose out.

Would love it to be so though as his no nonsense physicality is just what we need in the middle of the park, plus the hair is a nod to the bygone era of Alan Sunderland and Graham Rix :)
Call me cynical but this is an ideal scenario for our board/manager showing intent by activating his release clause, but knowing full well that others will match it. When he chooses manure instead of us the club will trot out the same old shit about trying their best, but being unable to sign our chosen targets. Cue more cheap and shitty imports! :banghead:
Good point and I am disgusted with myself for not thinking of that possibilty too

Where is that coffee spit emoticon when you need it ? That rumour is absolutely hilarious and as stuart has suggested, meeting the clause or not is redundant cos if the chavs and/or manure come in for him then we wont get him anyway

Have to say steve o, that whilst he wouldnt be my first choice midfield option, he certainly would bring some positive aspects to our team. The fact that he has recently spoken publicly about preferring to play DM position only pleases me more cos for me it is the position we most need strengthening. I dont want a ball playing genius in there but want a big physical player who will break up opposition attacks and imo he can do that job.
Still like the clips of that porto DM more though tbh

And yet you reckon Arteta was our player of the year mate......so I'm confused (not about Arteta because I love the fella and wanted him here 3 years before the bloke who has worked in football for 30 years worked out he was the best all round midfielder in the PL). To my mind the position that has to be strengthened the most is the centre forward position because the desperate group of wankers we have up top is depressing beyond belief and there are mid-table clubs with better strikers. Difference between winning trophies or not winning them is the hod carrier from Montpellier or David Villa. Very simple for me

Priorities for me:

Striker - If we are serious we need better than Giroud as number one choice.

Centre back - we have an OK partnership now, but see above.

Box to box midfielder - need more oomph in middle of the park.

Goalkeeper - experienced pro to help Szczesny.

I am not too keen on Fellaini, yes he is better than Ramsey but I want someone more consistent.
Guess Wenger sees Fellaini as similar to Diaby?
There are also a few "Fellaini to Man Utd" stories floating about and it would not suprise me at all to see him and Baines move there.

Arteta was my player of the season yes, but he is not a proper DM (not in my perception of what the position entails anyway) and is now into his 30's. Arteta's biggest strengths are his creativity and asking him to be the water carrier is an insult to the guy imo

Agreed, but thankfully the bloke is such a good all round player that he has adapted to the position and played it better than Hollywoodpass Alex Mong could ever do.......which is why we don't need to strengthen that position as much as centre forward where we have the biggest collection of wankpots ever to wear the shirt. Yep, I'm thinking back to the 'bad old days' or Mariner and Woodcock, Stapleton and Sunderland.......and they still all piss all over that useless expanded foreheaded prick from the Ivory Coast and the even more useless designer stubbled, perfectly styled lightweight air stewardess from Montpellier. Never mind, the Camel and Billy Joel Campbell are waiting in the wings, and I'm sure Sanchez Watt-the-fuck-I'm-on-loan-to-my-50th-club and Benik "I-looked-average-at-Huddersfield" Afobe are back to save the day

7.5m A YEAR YOU USELESS TOOL AND THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD CAN SEE WE NEED A STRIKER :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I have zero confidence in us signing anyone of worth or merit ,this way I can only be pleasantly surprised .

Bet it all goes quiet again next week unless of course season tickets renewals are not going well in which case there will be loads more linked to us without us having to actually spend any dosh.

Mourinho got Jovetic. He came, gave the money and it was done. Simple as that.
Not as Wenger who waits and waits and maybe just maybe they will give him some discount like he gets in Tesco.

We could had Mata, we waited and lost him to Celski. Now Jovetic. Thank God Mourinho worked with Higuain in Spain already so he does not want to sign him.

One of the respected journos (i.e. not John Cross) was on Talksport the other day saying how Wenger had a great opportunity to get business done early this window what with Moyes only just moving over to United, ditto Pellegrini at City and Mourinho at Chavski........but of course why strike early when you can watch other teams take all of the best players while you go bargain hunting in Montpellier. The crap about the window not being open officially is just that....crap. Deals get done way ahead of the window officially opening as they did when we signed Podolski. Fiorentina missed out on the CL and the opportunity was there to strike a deal for Jovetic before others moved.

The reality is that any day soon we'll be hearing rumours about how the club is holding back funds in case they don't make the CL Group stage as a contingency and we'll sign one player from France with the promise that cash will be available in the future from the new sponsorship / kit deals etc

I don't want Rooney, Higuain or Fellaini.
The latter is one of those players who has a purple patch or two each season and suddenley he's 'unplayable'. You don't hear about him in the other 30 games because he's very inconsistent, not very mobile and sometimes barely looks more interested than the Fat Russian we've just got rid of.
Surely even AW can spot that centre midfield is not our priority. If we have got some spending power let's go for a top striker.
