As if we expected otherwise........Ornstein claims Arsenal boss Unai Emery only has a ‘modest budget’ to work with in January.
A modest budget despite the highest matchday revenues in the world and an owner estimated to be worth $8.5 billion, but as you say completely unsurprising. The guy is an utter c.unt who will eventually take this team down into mid-table obscurity. If 2019 brought us a new owner I'd settle for being relegated and starting all over again - despise the wig wearing c.unt with every bone in my body

Why bring in one of the best coaches in Europe and give him fuck all to work with? As has been said elsewhere here, we might as well save ourselves the hassle and appoint someone like Moyes or Pardew to match our owner's ambition

It's funny the way a man's thought process can chop and change in a nano second - we are a mess in defence, but how many would welcome the signing of cahill (for example) ? If it was viewed by the club as a stop gap move to ensure we no longer had to endure clowns like mustafi in our team, should that be acceptable to us fans, or would/should it be viewed as just another cheapo move by a cheapskate owner/club ? Does desperate times call for desperate measures, and if so should we be willing to accept signing a 35 year old short term ? Would signing a 31 year old benatia from juve for no small money, be seen as preferable or is that too seen as a cheapo move ?

Personally I would move heaven and earth for a quality centre back - chances of buying a top quality one in january is less than zero, so then I would be looking to sign one from the next tier down. Dunno if benatia would be classed as second or 3rd tier quality, but if we dont or cant sign anyone from a higher tier, then I would most certainly be looking to buy him. The problem after that though is if we cant get anyone better, would we rather signing cahill than sign no centre back ? I honestly dont know the answer to that

I give Dick until the end of next season before he says fuck this and joins a club with ambition where he'll get a budget to build his team.

Just watched the preview of our game today on sky sports and I am staggered by their discussion on the ramsey situation - they claim that the club is 100% wrong not to pay him the £150k per week that he is looking for, but every meeja report in the world has consistantly said that he was looking for 300k per week from us. I know we rightly have a cheapskate reputation under this regime, but surely someone there would recognise and mention the MASSIVE discrepancy in the figures being quoted  Brains of britain merson is too stupid to understand figures, and midget cottee is an Arsenal hating b.stard so I expect no different from him, but I would have expected tiss or one of the others to question the figures quoted. Naturally they all (bar le tiss who was strangely silent on the issue) lauded ramsey as if he is world class, and nobody referred to his injury record

Did anyone mention that a deal had been agreed, was sat on the table, yet Ramsey didn’t sign it ?
Presumably he / his agent thought they could squeeze some more out but the club called his bluff and withdrew the contract.

I'd be happy enough signing Cahill, in the same way I'd have been happy paying £3m for Jonny Evans - but then I'm not a modern day football snob who would rather waste £35m on a piece of shit like Mustafi because "he's played 'x' number of times for Germany". It was obvious from day one he didn't have the balls or physicality to play CB in this league and that's still the case. For a club with a tight budget and just about no fit CBs we could have had those two at a steal and you can't tell me they'd be worse than Mustafi, Xhaka, Kolasinac or Koscielny in that position

Unai Emery tells the press conference Arsenal could sign "one or two" players and that Gary Cahill has not been discussed.

I read that the Ramsey contract taken off the table was actually for more than the £150 - 175k per week that he is expected to get in Italy. The discussion on Sky Sports was simply that to sign a replacement was going to cost around £40M plus £100k wages so in financial terms unless we get a bargain who starts tearing it up we may end up looking stupid.

I think that there is a Premier League rule for wage increases which Arsenal must follow, so Kroenke couldn't really invest properly even if he was inclined to (which he probably wouldn't be anyway). We had to unload loads of players over the past year to accomodate Ozil's new contract and take on Miki, who was on more than Sanchez. Not to mention Aubemeyang's wages.

Basically, the issue ultimately is that Kroenke is a laissez-faire owner who let an incompetent CEO and Manager stay on for far too long and they bungled the finances of the club for a couple of years at least. Both were reactionary and not really forward thinking, so it isn't surprising that wage budget is now f**ked.

Loads of people on this forum have compained about Spuds and Liverpool overperforming their wage bil, but they have been shrewd in transfers while Arsenal have been terrible. As a result, we are now paying the penalty for crap commercial deals and overpaying underperforming players. In my opinion, that is why Emery probably fit the managerial bill from a lot of different angles because he has managed in Sevilla and Valencia where his hands were largely tied. It looks like that is the case at Arsenal as well at least until we can unload more large contracts (looking at Ozil)....

I stand to be corrected on this, but I think that ramsey, wellshit, monreal, helmet head and one other first team squad member is out of contract in the summer - those wages alone off the wage bill will surely offset any increases brought about by player recruitments this month ? The ffp rules ( ) are a yearly thing, so if we get them back down by the financial years end, all will be sweet 8)
