There is an old proverb that goes on the lines of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".. Paul Merson is no leader of men, but he is the first prominent figure in the media to actually challenge and criticise Wenger. The feeling of frustration and despair experienced by us Arsenal supporters since 2008 have been largely ignored or dismissed by the media, yet after one outburst by a pundit and former player the media seems to have been liberated to call it as it should be.
It would be great if an Adams, Henry or suchlike were saying this , but two years ago we were thankful that Stewart Robson was making waves on Setanta TV.

As did parlour tbf and nobody slates him for doing so - merson fcuked up his life and never fulfilled his undoubted potential, and all because of drink, drugs and gambling so maybe he HAD to go for the money cos he needed it financially ? Parlour has always been open about the fact that he had to leave for more money cos he was getting financially cleaned out in a divorce so maybe it was similar for merse ?

Oh, I'm not slating him as such. My point is he is not true Arsenal, never was, never will be. Also, Merse changes his opinion on key issues more often than his kacks. What's the bets this time next week he'll be praising Wenger as a football genius again? :|

My first feelings of resentment came on the night of the Champions League Final in Paris. Not for what happened on the pitch, but I did feel that despite losing this was one of the most prestigious nights in our club's history and I thought Wenger was very ungracious in defeat. There was nothing new in that but the night that was in it called for decorum from a man that is intelligent enough to know that.

I actually wrote to David Dein (and received a reply) when Merson left. I complained strongly about such a talent being allowed to leave , I went on to say that if this gamble backfired it would look bad for the club. The reply from Dein's secretary/PA thanked me for my comments but strangely and maybe pointedly said Mr Merson's transfer was in everyone's interest. Furthermore the gamble didn't backfire , Arsenal won the double the following year..back then Arsene Knew.

And thats why I was so delighted that le cock has slated merse publicly - merse has a history of bottling out when it comes to questioning wenker, but now that the french cock has had a go at him it seems that the gloves are off for merse and that can only be good 8) We all know that when you say that a team is tactically clueless it puts focus on the manager, but merse never actually named wenker and le cock still had a personal pop back at him and that will provoke merse into retaliation and will entrench him in his critical stance

No disrespect guys but you could have the Pope, Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela (assuming they were still alive of course) as the main supporters in a protest campaign against AW. He still wouldn't take a blind bit of notice and would probably remind you that they haven't been in football for 30+ years!

This changes when, and only when, AW decides to step down. No amount of protesting etc. will have the slightest effect.

Sad I agree, but also true. Just accept that you're stuck with it until his contract ends.

Yes and no - he was clearly very rattled by jacqui oatley and the merse lately so he doesnt take criticism well. Any substantial fans protest probably wont have any direct hit on him, BUT it will certainly ignite the interest of the media who will question him at will over the lack of confidence us fans have in him. How do you feel he will react when the media hacks question him about a protest in a press conference ? How do you think that he will react when it is put to him that the fans feel that he is now outdated and too old to change ? How do you think he will react if the media continue to grill him over his total lack of tactical nous ? No doubt he will respond with some bitchy comment about 30+ years in football etc ( :blah: :blah: ) but any tetchy response will only encourage the media to hound him more and I dont think the arrogant cock has it in him to respond calmly to ANY criticism

These may well be only small matters but every chip away at his invincibility can only be a good thing and lessen his image publicly and I do feel that as soon as there is public opposition to the man, many more people (pundits and fans) will jump on board and he will feel the heat in a big way then

I don't think protesting will have any impact on Wenger (or Kroenke), but it will definitely be covered by the media. And once they catch on to the fact that fans are dissatisfied, the pressure and questioning will rise, and he'll no longer be able to lie his way through post-match interviews without being challenged.

Essentially, the more unrest, the better. Starting to protest can create a ripple effect that could definitely help accelerate Wenger's departure.

Tony Adams and Ray Parlour are both West Ham fans... so...   anyway, I do agree about Paul Merson, only last season he came out with the classic 'Be careful what you wish for' and I'll dare say we'll hear it again from him pretty soon!
