Sadly, I think the answer lies in our squad depth... sorry, lack of

You mention Ramsey, Wilshere and Vela, but I'm not sure they'd actually be an improvement.

Don't get me wrong, they'll no doubt become regulars in the next season or so... but for now, they're even more youthful and inexperienced than our current lot, and I think that would show even more so, than it does now.

Vela and Ramsey both started against Burnley and Porto and did precious little, so I think the answer - short term - probably lies in keeping faith in Song, Denilson, etc until we can seriously address our problems in January.

Will Wenger address those problems, though? hell, does he even believe there IS a problem??? :? that's a question I'm sure we're all asking.

Hold on g88ner, ramsey was far and away our best player during the week so did enough to suggest that he at least get on for some part of the game today

I didn't think Ramsey was that great against porto, but he was one of our better players that night... which isn't saying much, as we were woeful

I like Ramsey (Vela & Wilshere, too) and I'm sure all 3 will be great players - and soon! - but at 17, I don't think he's ready, and I guess, neither does Wenger. But, in fairness, he couldn't have done any worse than Denilson on the right, today.

Yet, frustratingly, Ramsey is a CM too... so all the options we seem to have involve playing players out of position! it's crazy. :banghead:

Would I have started him today? no, I wouldn't. Denilson would get the nod from me (just) and sadly, Alex Song is about as close to a DM as we've got... and his height is useful on set pieces.

Don't read this as a pro-Song post, because it's not! the fact Song has played as many games as he has, perfectly illistrates the squad depth, and lack of quality, we have available.

January can't come sooner enough, but even then, I'm worried Wenger won't spend. His comments yesterday... "buying is not always the right option" - worrying! :?

Today was the first time I really though Diaby could be sold in the summer.

He was played out of position again, but it is so rare that we get any results from him that I would gladly take some cash for him and go for a more direct pacy player.

To see today's midfield, even allowing for injuries, and contrast it with the more powerful and faster midfields of four years ago, was painful.

Just watching MOTD and Wenger said

"We have just had two away games at Chelsea and Boro and we got four points".

Is he really expecting us to swallow shite like that. Talk about spin. He totally forgot the games in between when we were shite.

I'm afraid that has sealed it for me. The man is deluded.

I think that Denilson could develop into an adequate replacement for Cesc, and Augie does too.

I do not believe he is at that physical level yet, and as his current form shows, not technically on form, with him giving the ball away too often.

He is showing an alarming lack of spatial awareness, an inability to read the game.

What alarms me too is that he has shown in the past that he possessed the level of spatial awareness and game reading ability needed to be a top player.
It was these qualities in his game that made me believe he could deputise for Cesc.

Somehow he has lost it, perhaps his confidence is very low after poor displayed being played out of position?

Wenger was also on Football Focus this morning trotting out some crap about the team hitting a patch of consistency as we'd won two games in succession against Chelsea and...... Wigan. As he said Wigan you could see that he was embarrassed to be talking up a win over Wigan - hesitating as he uttered the words. Chelsea fair enough but... Wigan!

How the mighty have fallen.

I don't know about bangers and mash this is more like those Lidl hotdogs from a jar with no tomato ketchup.

He's losing the plot!

I have to put my hat in the ring with IHH and say that Denilson has never shown the inclination to take over from Cesc in any way. He's a very average player in the centre who I don't think will reach the level that Cesc is at or the younger Ramsey looks like he will.

It is unfortunate being played out of position but these players sometimes just have to put up with it and put some more effort it - For god's sake, Flamini did at left back.

Agreed. Denilson is average at best.

You know what pisses me off a lot? Wenger's famous comment that he doesn't want to sign established players because it will 'kill' the kids.

Well Wenger, making them sit on the bench watching the likes of Song, Eboue, Denilson, Diaby and Bendtner pulling on the red shirt regularly, going out and playing absolute dogshit and then getting picked for the next game is going to 'kill' them a hell of a lot quicker!

How many of the young guys cursed training alongside the likes of Bergkamp and Henry? None of them, they all say it helped them progress.

I would love to know if the directors kicked his arse a bit at the meeting the other day. I hope they grew some balls and did exactly that.
