All £22m may not be spent but we will certainly be spending some of it and we can be pretty sure that we will get Chamakh as a replacement I should think. If this means we can also get a defensive midfielder it's a great deal. Adebayor of last season is really not much of a loss. Bendtner got almost as many goals with a lot less playing time. At Man City he'll be playing for the money even more than he was with us and be correspondingly as good, i.e. not very.

Very good deal IMO, would have taken £15m. He doesn't want to be here and has shown that with lacklustre performances for much of the season and there is no reason that should change.

Clearly a replacement is needed but it's not like replacing an Henry or Bergkamp level striker and we now have the money for a proper DM (shame this came after Melo passed us by).

Beyond any other argument for selling him the problem is i don't think many of us believe the money will be used to strengthen so we may as well keep him and hope he gets his arse in gear, if he does he's gonna be a damn sight better than any two bob replacement we may get.

Robinho, Tevez and Adebayor coming!

Posted: 2009-07-13 20:36
Manchester City have confirmed that Robinho will be coming to South Africa for the 2009 Vodacom Challenge … but he will only jet in ahead of the Final on July 25.

The Brazilian helped his country to victory at the recently completed Confederations Cup, which finished on June 28, and then also got married to his childhood sweetheart on Saturday.

He will be allowed to have a honeymoon before joining the club in South Africa ahead of the Vodacom Challenge Final at Loftus Stadium in Tshwane.

City chairman Garry Cooke confirmed the news on MetroFM on Monday evening, at the same time announcing that the club had finalised deals with former Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez and Arsenal hitman Emmanuel Adebayor.

Cooke would not, however, commit on whether the duo would be coming to South Africa, though he hinted that City manager Mark Hughes would like to bring his full squad

My point exactly. 8)
(And I don't mean replacing him with this Chamakh dude either)

hmm.... I can't see anything on their website about the Ade deal, but if their chairman is saying it, surely it must be so.

It's a stupid move for us if it's true and i think it will be one we regret come the end of the season.

If this is true we should have whatever the Ade fee is + whatever we were going to spend already, so that has got to be 40ish million all in, whats the betting we spend barely half of that and still get kidded we spent big this year when in reality we will have spent almost nothing as usual..

Same thoughts here, I concede he might end up going, but think about it this way, we've just finished 4th and City are looking more and more likely to challenge us for that spot ahead of anyone else who finished near us last season.

Apparently we've offered them AA and Cesc as well in a buy one get one free deal, but no worries we are keeping Eboue and Denilson and bringing in big money buys cattermole and bramble.

He is not that loyal he waited to sign a £85,000 per week contract to see if we bought in any players we have got Vermaelen who is hardly a big signing so to me it looks like money was the sticking point.

If we sell Adebayor we will regret it and it will cost us in the short and long term he is best striker and everybody knows the we can't afford both a CDM and a CF with £22 million so it will be one or the other leaving us short in a position or we will not spend any of it and we will have 2 positions where we are short.

I would sell for 22-25 million on two conditions
1) It was clear Ade was not going to be motivated this season either

2) We have a player already as a good as signed as we will need a replacement. A top class replacement who will hopefully adjust very quickly to the side. It has to be known top class because otherwise we will hear of how we are a selling club

Today is crunch day, seems like both sides want this to happen so if it doesn't happen by the end of the day I'm putting it down as another missleading SSN Breaking News item.

SSN seem to think it's at a really advanced stage so finmgers crossed it's a done deal.

Hopefully him going will unite the club, he was treated poorly by the some fans (not all) last year but then he didn't look to try and shove the taunts back down their throats which would have been the correct path to take.

There can be no complaints on his part, he acted like a spoilt child who got told off then sulked for a season, he may have had 3/4 of a good season 2 years ago but we can't live in the past and need to be more concerned with how his poor play in the team effects all around him.

Regardless of form he was guaranteed a spot in the starting line up, Wenger is keen on bringing kids through as we keep hearing but the one way to mess all that up and keep the kids down is to continue to play players on repuation and not performance as it motivates no one, no player and certainly no fan.

It's a shame he got hounded out of the club but not for his feelings as I think he's a *word censored* but for the fact that fan power has worked now and I hope it's not gonna be a trend that continues where the crowd get on players backs for less reasons then they did with Adebayor hence forcing them out of the club, that would be a shame.

I think everyone is making the mistake of thinking we sold the 30 goal a season Adebayor. That would have been a mistake - that player was one of the best strikers in the world. We're selling a bloke who evidently couldn't be bothered last season and other than a few moments of magic really didn't contribute to the level required and didn't fit in with our style of play because he stopped just getting in the box and tried to join in the build up and slowed it down all the time. It would have been the same story this season and it will be even more the same story when he doubles his money at Man City. As I said Bendtner scored almost as many goals with many less starts.

You can be paranoid about what may happen to the money, I think the club realise that the situation with the fans has changed and that if that money doesn't get spent there will be a real problem if things don't go right. At least it will give us a chance of getting the right players in, there wasn't one before.

Spot on.

If the club gets 25M then you would hope it would be reinvested into midfield.

Your opening comment sums it up for me, there really isnt the despiration to replace a player that scored 10 goals in the league and contributed so little to open play, we are not replacing an influencial player (based on last year) we are replacing someone who was gone 12 months ago so we start at the same point.
