Almunia appreciation thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

This is the silliest thread I've ever read on this (or any other) forum.
Almunia is shit.
Fact.
No other Premeir League side in the top half of the table would have him.
He makes our defense nervous and uncoordinated.
It's blindingly obvious our defenders have little faith in him.
His decision-making is lamentable - more like a 10-year-old schoolboy that a professional footballer.
I'd be worried if he was even our second-choice keeper, to be honest.
But he's our No.1 ???!!!!!!

off the top of my head I would rather have
Cech, VDS, Given, Reina, Friedel, Hart, James, Schwarzer, Jaaskelainen, Green, Howard, Hahneman, Gomes, Gordan, Simonsen, Cudicini, Harper
I'm sure there's more I haven't thought of, haven't really followed the lower leagues this year - that Ankegran at Leeds looked good in their cup run, Kaspar Schmeicel's been playing well.
Oh please lets not start the Schmiecal thing again the guys really not that good just because his dad was second best keeper in the world at the time dosnt mean Kasper is any good. Not prem standard YET. He is only young so might well go on to be great but will be hounded out worse than Almunia if he came here. Green are you having a laugh? The guys pony Almunia shits on his gloves. A Leeds keeper? Do me a favour. Cech is also woeful now days but has the reputation to let him get away with it. Gomes can be superman one minute but make worse mistakes than Mooney the next the guys a massive liability. Simonsen? Lol. Sorenson? Lol. Harper? Lol. Hart? Lol. James? SUPER FUCKING MASSIVE HUGE LOL. Haneman? VERY LOL. Cudicini? SOMEONE TURN THE TAPS OFF THE ROOMS FILLING WITH LOL.
Well said, I couldn't agree more. Half of these keepers have one half decent game per season against us normally and then all of a sudden that makes them much better than our own.

Fatty Arbuckle Robert Green - do me a favour. He dives in installments - watch Eduardo's header go past him in the Cup game at their place - joker. David James - never seen him make game losing howlers and Jaaskelainen was just great at our place and against the Salford Red Sox the other week.

Basically you've listed a few keepers that make the odd Hollywood save and claimed they are better than Almunia. I presume Fabianski makes the list of better keepers on that basis......

I sincerely hope that there isn't anyone out there who thinks that Almunia was even partially to blame for that pathetic collapse last night ?

i don't rate him as a keeper, but as for last night, nah for once i can't lay any blame at his door.

You've really come out swinging today SteveO

It's strange that this thread was started, even stanger it was bumped. I see no reason for it.

Almunia wasn't at fault last night. But, in the long run, must be replaced.

I agree with all of that - I find some of the recent comments on here mystifying. I know I'm a miserable bastard but hopefully I try and point out why. There are too many posters here willing to say that Almunia and Diaby are complete shit and to blame for every defeat we incur. Neither of them were at fault last night
