As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wenger can say that he like Chamack and has good technical ability blah blah....
As opposed to "We want Cesc here at Barca".
We did bid for Chamack in the summer but didn't meet Bordeauxs valuation. Is that a lack of class or similar to the Cesc situation now?
Personally no.
As Bordeaux wanted something like £10M for a player with one year remaining. Wenger disagreed and was willing to offer £5M.
Obviously talks broke down and dispite links with Liverpool and other clubs he signed for Arsenal on a free.
Arsenal didn't even announced the deal until after the French league had finished despite what was being said in France.
It’s not exactly the same, no. But you could argue that talking about how much you rate a player & so on is more disingenuous than stating outright that you want to sign them. You say we made a bid that was rejected but at some point I’m sure I remember the Bordeaux chairman claiming he hadn’t heard from Arsenal directly but Wenger had been talking about him, and possibly even to him. He could have been bluffing of course. And if unconfirmed reported bids justify Wenger talking publicly about Chamakh, then likewise Barca have reportedly made bids for Cesc. I thought you yourself had said it was £29m? So by that criteria Barca wouldn't be any more in the worng than us. Could be wrong though, I stand corrected if I am.
I dont like Barca's tactics, I think they're sneaky arrogant pricks. But all clubs are at it in one form or another, including us.
No I agree with you and I accept we're not whiter then white. Buying talented youth players that are unattached isn't illegal as Arsenal found a loop-hole but then its neither a class act.
I don't know if Wenger was talking to Chamack, prior to the 6 months expiry of his contact. (from 6 months Chamacks free to talk).
If you're correct then we, like others including Madrid and Barca should be fined and heavily in some cases.

Yeah, agree with that. Said the same on one of the other Cesc threads earlier in the summer. And not only that but Wenger was publicly talking up Chamakh in the press the whole time, despite previously claiming he doesn't like managers talking about other club's players.

As we say Bordeaux over priced Chamakh Barcelona could say we are over pricing Cesc....... If Cesc sits tight sees out his contract and then goes to Braca for nothing i suppose they will be classless again? You cant have it both ways!!!! As for Wenger praising form but not saying we want him thats splitting hairs its all the same thing said in differing ways with the intention of getting the player
Come on flash! We know realistically he's not worth more then Ronaldo. But on the flipside we shouldn't be accepting £29M. They has to be a half way house.
Bordeaux were prepared to keep Chamack as they'd gain around £10M through the Champion league. So it was win-win for them.
sorry but anyone thinking we operate in different ways to other clubs need to take the Arsenal (i wont say rosetinted) glasses off. There may be differences in the Chamakh transfer but its minimal. Still if Cesc goes on a free in 3 years or so Barca will still be cunts but we are whiter than white
I've funnily enough just replied to IUFGN and used the whiter then white phrase myself. But I do believe they is a major difference between the two.
Obviously the fact we made a official approach shows that we are interested. If its rejected (as it was) we bid higher or leave it at that.
The difference with Barca is the constant sound bites from the president elect about players they wish to bring to the club when/if elected.
This is wrong and unsettling! and UEFA or FIFA need to act.
Not just that but the constant talking to the press and then the players are jumping on the wagon as well.
Barca shouldn't be talking about Cesc in the press about moving until a bid is accepted and they are in talks with Cesc.

And even if we were to get £60mil. does anybody in their right mind really think that it will be invested in the squad? Will it fuck! any fee will go to towards the mortgage just as the cash for Ade and Toure did.
Wenger will tell us the same shite he told us when Vieira and Henry left. about believing in this group of players, and once again there will be enough fucking idiots willing to believe him.
Either he leaves for around 40-50, or he does not leave till next season.
If we do get 60, we will only spend one third of that .
So much I want to write in response to some of the posts, but for brevity's sake, I'll limit it to saying that essentially I agree with g88ner. This is a major over-reaction and people seem to be falling into their pre-set positions.
Those that were/are convinced that Cesc was/is leaving - for the myriad of reasons always mentioned, i.e. boyhood club, Arsenal's lack of ambition, etc - and think it would be best for the club that he did, still think so and are (wrongly, in my opinion) blaming the player;
And those that, although they may agree with a lot of the reasons, want Cesc to stay regardless - even if only for one more year - and don't question his commitment or think he has done anything to deserve the anger being directed at him.

I don't think anyone can be pissed at Cesc tbh, he's clearly embarassed by it, and sort of does an 'oh shit' when he realises what shirt it is. For me I just have a lot of hate for Barcelona and their players, and I don't care if that make me a hypocrite because Arsenal do a similar thing, its how I feel.
I forgot to mention that, although I personally still wouldn't let him go for that figure, if the club do sell him for anything less than £50m, then it will be the biggest capitulation since Neville Chamberlain famously held 'a piece of paper'!!! (Yes, even worse than the Wigan collapse last season!! )
you cant balme Cesc at all! I blame Wenger for all of this.
I am starting to have a hatred for Wenger, he is weak and he has let us be bullied yet again by Barca. His policy of investing in children has failed. His policy of not buying proven quality stars has cost us winning nothing for 5 years. This has also cost all our best players to leave! Do you really think players such as cesc would think of going if they were playing alongside other world qulaity stars? No chance!
Wenger is a *word censored*! ive said it and i dont care

To be fair Mickey this sort of thing has been going on long before the 'project'.
Remember how Barca acosted Overmars and Petit.
Plus the 'Henry years' each summer
Then there was Helb's ice cream.
Back then we were winning things as well so I understand your pain but it's not Wengers fault.
I think the club and other clubs should do more a make UEFA act.
