You just dont get fed up looking at that cesc goal v the scum do you ? Am having spending 5 minutes watching it over and over again remembering the utter mayhem all around me when it went in

On a serious level I think that I am now at the stage that I hope that schwarzer does indeed fail the medical and keep failing it too......it is a disgrace that buying this guy is the height of our ambitions and wenger has had 3 months to sign a keeper now without depending on a 38yr old passing a medical with 9 days left in a transfer window

Although I agree that a club like Arsenal should have a better 'keeper than Schwarzer, I'm not sure hoping he fails a medical is the right answer - after all, in all likelihood, if the move for Schwarzer breaks down over a medical, then it's highly unlikely a better 'keeper will be found at such short notice, meaning....augie wrote:On a serious level I think that I am now at the stage that I hope that schwarzer does indeed fail the medical and keep failing it too......it is a disgrace that buying this guy is the height of our ambitions and wenger has had 3 months to sign a keeper now without depending on a 38yr old passing a medical with 9 days left in a transfer window![]()
Almunia stays as number 1!!!

To be honest Augie, along with your opinions on selling Cesc, I'm finding it difficult to undertsand your logic in wanting a move for a new 'keeper to fall through. Surely, we're better off WITH Cesc and Schwarzer, then without them?

Read my cesc post again g88ner and you will see that I am 100% hoping that cesc stays if he is committed 100% to the club this season. In that thread I asked if people thought that I was reading too much into his demeanour yesterday and it seems that 98% of people that posted on that thread believe that I was wrong so fair enough I will hold my hands up and accept that and pray that they are right

The keepers situation though is a different matter entirely. I agree 100% that we need a keeper and a better keeper than we currently have too - the question is if schwarzer is better than what we have and while I agree that he is (wouldnt be difficult I know

Fair enough, mate.
There's about a week of the transfer window left, and although I agree that there must surely be other 'keepers available, I think that time is very much against us now and if Schwarzer doesn't arrive then we might be stuck with Almunia until at least January
- I want to avoid that at all costs, because he know's he's on borrowed time, and that cannot help him focus. He's a liability as it is.
As for Cesc - again, regardless of his state of mind, I'd much much rather take the risk that he can start performing again this season, than cut our losses and go with an average looking midfield this season. If we were going to let Cesc go, then it had to be early in the summer - it would be football suicide to let him leave now.
Anyway, back to Schwarzer...
I haven't seen enough of him to form a proper opinion of him, to be honest. I watched him in the world cup and he was shit, and he was shit at the Grove last season, too. However, Fulham fans seem to rate him very highly, so hopefully he's actually pretty good. I don't know, but I'd rather take that gamble than stick will Almunia. Of course, I'd rather Given, but I'm not going to get my hopes up on that one.

I'd prefer Given, but that is out of the question as his wages are a joke.
I thought he was on 80k per week at city ?

In theory your right augie, and I've made that point out about our reduction in hig earners before. But it doesn't take into account the massive wage increases we give to our average not so invicibles...augie wrote:northbankbren wrote:I cant understand why people wouldnt want schwarzer? I thought he was on 80k per week at city ?If so surely that wouldnt be beyond our means would it ? This summer alone we have cut the wages of sol, eduardo, merida, silvestre, senderos and a c**t that thought he was going to be sought by europe's finest only to end up at a small scum club (

) so surely we must have the readies to meet 80-100k per week
It always amuses me to hear people defending our lack of spending by pointing out that the wages of any new signings must come from the transfer kitty while at the same time totally ignoring the money that we have saved in wages for the players that have left and there is always more of the latter group than the former group

Seriously, this crap has gone on for too long. AW is really starting to piss me off with his lack of quality "movement" in this transfer window. FFS Swartzer shouldn't even be an option for our club, yet we "negotiating" for this guy. HE ISN'T ARSENAL QUALITY....end of.
It's like going to buy fish and chips. You know the food at home isn't the best, so you go into this dodgy joint to buy some supper. It is probably over-cooked and left in the display too long, but you still consider your options. Then you discover that sushi is actually good even if it's raw.
Maybe our "raw" Sheszney should just be allowed to step in, because I am sick to my gut of seeing Al and Flappy starting.
