The thing is though If someone is depressed there are often tell tale signs over a period of time .
In this case it seems completely out of the blue which suggest something very traumatic happened and he reacted.
Wife leaving him because of his or her affair with a man/woman ?
Who knows it's very sad for sure.

I was very proud of the respect shown by all Gooners last night, still I felt slightly uncomfortable with the signing of "One Gary Speed" and the cheering under the circumstances.

Not wanting to sounds too juvenile but I'm pretty sure the Mancs started that. It's hard to know what to do these days with silence/applause/appreciation etc, but I think the message of respect came across.

I'd have to disagree. The Silence was introduced for Mourning on a national scale i.e. the fallen of WWI.
Either one is fine but it can get confusing at times.

I think the phrase 'a minute's appreciation' was a very odd one to use; a minute's applause or a minutes silence... which one?

They weren't sure how the crowd would react because although we always used to do a period of silence, on the continent they normally applaud and over the past few years that has started creeping into our traditions. That's probably why they went with the word 'appreciation'.

Hmmm... But then go with one or the other, no, don't leave it up to people, which always leads to irritation..

Yeah I thought this, when he said appreciation I thought people would start to clap immediately.

I prefer a minute silence but at least with a minute applause it drowns out the useless, ignorant, disrespectful pricks who seem to be at every game and want to be heard when its a minute silence
