Daaaaaaaay 28. (actually not sure about that. Lost the ability to count, but does it really matter?)

Still not puffed a ciggie. Have a 'rosy' complexion. I can smell burning food and can taste most stuff now, (not bad for a very keen chef). Mood swings are still there, but DB10 explained that on another thread. Sweats and daft dreams come and go, but hey ho.

When I gave em up I found I needed to do something to keep my hands occupied. So I started wanking more instead of smoking.

I'm now down to 15 a day.

Cheers lads. A long way to go but it is actually getting easier. Some days I don't think of a smoke until I see someone light up, but it soon passes.
It is still strange not having a fag with a pint, but the consolation is not smelling of old smoke and my eyes are no longer constantly red and sore.
Good luck to everyone else trying the same.

Percy has fucked worse TL well done mate, I gave up for two months recently then got back on em so please stay strong and don't think that you can have just one social smoke like I did, it will end in failure. I used some tablets called TABEX and have ordered some more, them with willpower helped me and I am hopeful that I can succeed next time round. It is a terrible addiction that is becoming more and more socially unacceptable, even my kids treat me like a leper and tell me that I smell of smoke, if that isn't motivation for me to quit then I don't know what is.

Gotcha Mutley. Smokers are now social pariahs. One day drinkers will go the same way. Indeed you make a good point about having just a social smoke. The only other time I tried it some six years ago the same thing happened to me.
The difference this time is, whenever I get the urge now, I question why I think that I want one and why I think that it would be just the one. Like last night, we went around friends for dinner. They are heavy smokers. We had a lovely meal and the wine was flowing, conversation was good and then a few brandy's. There was an ashtray next to me and my mate was joking about the inhalator that I was almost chewing on. He offered me a cigar and said that it's not the same as having a fag. It was very tempting but I thought to myself, I can enjoy the brandy without the customary cigar and I'm not craving the taste of one, just the habit of a glass in one hand a smoke in the other.
This morning my eyes were red and sore from their smoke and my shirt stank, fucking rank mate.
This afternoon I will have beers with my mate watching Arsenal win, he will smoke like a trooper and each time I will want to reach for one I will just tell myself that I don't NEED one.
It ain't easy mate, but after just a few weeks the benefits are bloody amazing.
Another thing is not to try to set a date when all is hunky dory to give em up. Do it spontaneously.

When I was quitting the advice was to avoid anywhere where the temptation to have a fag might be. Like going to the pub, parties etc........

But I reckon the best bet is...... rather than avoid these situations to meet them head on. Put it this way.......
If you can go to a party where you're having a laugh, a few drinks, others are smoking and the temptation is to say..."I'll just have one, sure its only one, it doesn't matter" If you can resist it at a time like that when its very difficult then you can probably beat the fukers.

Although remember....... you're still "trying to stop". You're not a "non-smoker" quite yet. Best not to get ahead of ourselves eh?
