Under Rated or Over Rated? - Discuss Arsenal Legends

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If you're right JD how were we 'allowed' to go a whole season unbeaten when united never have? Its got nothing to do with refs its to do with having the best players, that's what wins you titles

bizarre claim - every one of those games was "NOTHING to do with refereeing decisions"
if that was the case if would be the first, last and only ManUre title win in my lifetime where their competitors didn't get hit worse than them by refereeing decisions

this deserves another thread

Mike Riley is was and will forever be a ManUre legend, his importance is impossible to over-rate

Over a season decisions work themselves out and the best teams come first and the worst team comes bottom. Simple really

As I said Adebayor handled the ball into the net at Old Trafford - I bet United fans don't whinge about this decision because they won the fucking game and then won the fucking league. Just like I haven't heard Citeh fans moaning about the Murphy non-penalty last season after they won the title. And just like United fans didn't spend months whinging that Welbeck had a goal wrongly ruled out at Craven Cottage when they were about 4 goals up last season.

Any club can pull together a few reffing decisions from an extended period or a season and use it as a smokescreen for the real issues. It's a loser's excuse and it's never the root of the problem.

your argument makes no sense.. it's self-fulfilling
of course winners don't complain
last season Citeh were only in a title race because decision after decision went for ManUre
they scraped over the line, then everyone praises them for beating ManUre
and they obviously focus on themselves. Reality is they were a country mile better than MaNUre
yet won the league on goal difference

in order to beat ManUre to any title a Prem team has to be 10-15 points better than them
then they might scrape it on GD

It's not so much an argument as an observation. Winners don't complain but it doesn't mean they don't suffer poor refereeing decisions along the way.

You sound like a lunatic with that 10-15 point nonsense, that means United were only about 4-9 points better than us last year then? Although congratulations on managing to add another 3 (virtual) PL titles to our (virtual) collection, we'll have to get some (virtual) carpenters to build another (virtual) trophy cabinet.

started another thread for my lunacy - (do ManUre get help from ref's)
this is over/under-rated
I think Webb's love of ManUre is over-rated and Riley's is under-rated
Webb just prefers the favourites, he's a homer ref.

Riley is a ManUre legend

Wenger is an unmitigated failure for 8 years - because his only targets are to win the PL or CL and he has failed MISERABLY, totally and utterly failed, every single year.

If you're entire argument is based on 4 or 5 weeks JD you really are a bigger **** (twit)? than I thought because winning the cup in 2005 does not mean Wenger hasn't been completely useless for 8 years. He's an awful manager who is incapable of building a winning team because his ego is way too big. Arsenal would be better off with Steve McClaren in charge and that is saying something!!

Underrated - Silvinho, thought he was a great left back and scored a couple of cracking goals too.

TC please look up what the phrase 'unmitigated failure' means
then do the sum 2013 - 8
neither maths nor the definition of mitigation are debatable concepts

no need for an apology, I and everybody that has properly read your post knows you're wrong
best if you accept it to yourself

Looked it up - unmitigated = absolute, utter. complete

I was right, he is a complete and utter failure, an absolute failure in the last 8 years. Thanks for pointing out I was right.

Accepted - but given that he played for us 30 years ago and I still remember him as being an exceptional talent means that he must have had something. In truth, I think it was one particular game that marked him out. I'll say it was a 4-1 win at West Ham...but someone will probably correct me, that it was a 2-2 draw with Watford   !
it was a 3-1 win at west ham mate, vlady scored as did whyte and mcdermott
francois van der elst pulled 1 back for west ham in the 2nd half
on another forum i was trying to get documentation of arsenal on telly
starting from 70/71 my 1st season but i could,nt get a bite
it seems there are a few older gooners on here
so i will do it with petrovic
he was only here for 6 months
i remember him scoring a direct free kick v stoke i was in the clockend
talbot did it soon after and was getting called vlady
1983
2nd feb leeds [a] fa cup 4th round replay 1-1 was on midweek sports special
15th feb man utd [h] league cup semi 1st leg 2-4 was on midweek sports special is on you tube
19 the feb boro [a] fa cup 5th round 1-1 was on the big match is on you tube[a rare outing for the green kit]
23rd feb man utd [a] league cup semi 2nd leg 2-1 was on midweek sports special
12th march villa [h] fa cup quarter final 2-0 was on match of the day vlady scored, woodcocks goal is on 501 arsenal goals
16th april man utd[villa park] fa cup semi lost 2-1 was on match of the day is on you tube vladi had a hand in our goal
never made this game, car conked out at swiss cottage, when i had a problem with my car i just used to put oil in it
i drowned the fucker.
stewart robson was a fine player and very unlucky with injury
but looking back over that 82/83 season we have,nt defended as badly as we did then in the last 30 years
glass houses and stones spring to mind
