A crucial 3 points and other results went for us.
We're coming good at the business end of the season, the players and wenger deserve great credit.
Crucial? Crucial in what way exactly? We are out of the title race and have been for months. This has been the case for far too many seasons at this stage but still the same old melodramatic and clichéd words such as ''crucial'' or a ''vital'' get banded about by fans and media.

People are entitled to be happy that we've won of course but it is as if they are desperately trying to give the games a level of importance they just don't merit.

In reality all we are playing for in the league is to qualify for a competition we cant win and to get money we don't need. Hardly what I'd call crucial.

Only saw what was on Match of the Day and it certainly seemed unnecessarily uncomfortable at the end..one point from MOTD could Gary and Robbie just say "we hate arsenal with all our hearts and all our souls "? it would be easier for them than the constant search for something to moan about.
A touch fortunate on both goals but so were Palace on theirs. Just how high did the boot need to be on Rosicky in the build up to have the ref call it a foul? Anyway we are on the way to our glory day in the month of May. Just hope Rodders and SteveO can contain themselves til then..

It's crucial because to continue to attract the likes of ozil and Sanchez, we need CL football.
I'm as pissed off as anyone that stupid defeats in November and December has cast us a title challenge.
If us and Utd are going for a top player this summer, then having CL football to offer is going to be 'crucial'

Lucky, Lucky Arsenal. The only sensible thing the boss did tonight was to leave 'The Boy Wonder' on the bench. He would have nothing to help the hapless Chambers as he is a useless defender at the best of times. :barscarf: :barscarf:

As much as I hate to say it CL football is important no matter how jaded and cynical we are about the manager and owners.
Failure to qualify would result in even less spending

Rock and a hard place.

Get fourth, get the money, our best players stay (mostly), but so does Wenger.

Finish fifth, AW may go (please god), but so does Alexis.

However, the PL is so piss poor at the moment that it's not impossible we could finish third.

To be fair I used to believe what you're saying about CL but Liverpool kept hold of Suarez without CL football (while we still lost the likes of Fabregas, RvP and Nasri). Then Man Utd signed DiMaria and Falcao without it last summer.

You're probably right though that Ozil and maybe Sanchez would not have signed for us if we were not in the CL. However even with them our overall prospects of winning the title or CL are the same as when we had Song, Denilson and Eboue in the team ... and so even signing top players doesn't seem that crucial to me anymore. I wonder what impact these top players are really being allowed to make?

And I might be too cynical but if we hadn't had those defeats in Nov & Dec I'm sure we would be having them around now. I doubt there would have been a serious title challenge. The club just seems geared towards getting top 4 and I think we will always get 3rd or 4th under Wenger.

I'm not so sure that's true mate. We only seem to spend to maintain our current position so if we ever drop below that (as unlikely as it seems) I'm sure we would find the money to spend in an attempt to get back to this level.

What we never do of course is spend in an attempt to turn us from top 4 and CL regulars into potential PL winners and European Champions :banghead: .

Stupid defeats in Nov and Dec cost us? We only won 2 of our first 8 until mid-Oct whilst the chavs beat everything in sight.

One thing that has to change is these Tactics if we are leading away from home, its becoming unbearable now

On 80 minutes he takes off a midfielder and attacker, sending on 2 x defenders

This is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, it conceeds possession and gives a mental boost to the opposition

We are then in for a seige on our goal, with only luck deciding the outcome

If we have the ball they are not dangerous, simple logic, why does he persist in this tactic??????.....a thickness of the goal post

denied Palace the draw.

you realise that you could have said that at this stage of the season for the last decade?
every season we make the top 4 but then DO NOT strengthen to make a title challenge.

wake up you brainwashed fool

Went to this game with my boy and how anyone can say that Giroud was 'outstanding' is beyond me. Ok he scored and OK he's improved but I lost count of how many times we could have had a quick break only for the ball to start with Giroud and then it got tangled up in his cloven hoofs. I also thought Chambers, Monreal were poor also and Kos and the BFV were pretty good, but let's face it we were playing Palace and we should be despatching this mob with gusto not struggling to hold onto a tenuous lead through the idiotic and brainless substitutions by Mr Knows!
