Re: Declan Rice
I've constantly noticed, while watching Rice play for West Ham, that he is another that does a lot of pointing. It's an irritating trait, but let's hope that pointing is the only thing he has in common with old Clubfoot.

Yes, but unlike the dullard, useless price that is Clive... he actually knows what he is pointing at and why?Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:17 pmI've constantly noticed, while watching Rice play for West Ham, that he is another that does a lot of pointing. Rice is a leader, it will be interesting to see if he's made Captain when Odegaard isn't playing, or when he (Odegaard ) is sold back to R. Madrid in 2 seasons time for £80Million (Yup! You heard it here first).

Sorry, but I find the whole pointing thing to be demonstrative bollocks. I get it at a set piece when you're defending your area and giving out directions about who needs to be picked up, but it's rarely necessary while the game is in motion.
Frank McLintock, Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira were true captains and leaders, but didn't see the need to be pointing all the time. Performative nonsense, or in the case of Xhaka it's more a matter of "don't pass the ball to me".
Anyway, we'll see how "world class" Declan shapes up. Let's hope he justifies the fee.

Exactly. Leaders lead by example and by getting the message across verbally and setting the tone.Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 4:11 pmOneBardGooner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:47 pmYes, but unlike the dullard, useless price that is Clive... he actually knows what he is pointing at and why?Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:17 pmI've constantly noticed, while watching Rice play for West Ham, that he is another that does a lot of pointing. You mean like Pepe!?

Yes, I hope so also.
Whenever I've watched a game in which Rice is playing; yes he points. But ,he is using that as part of his verbally telling others where they need to go because he sees it, he reads the game very well... He Is a Leader. Which seems to be another thing that those against us signing him get really irritated by. You'd think that any Gooner would be glad to have a quality player coming in (regardless of the cost) so that it improves the squad/team and our chances of achieving success. But there again there are some who think their opinions and their ego's are more important than the club being successful. Which is Sad.

The guy was saying that, with the amount of money in the game, transfer fees have become completely irrelevant. It isn’t about how much you spend on a player, just whether or not they will fit into your team. I kind of knew what he means.
If rice costs £100 million it makes no difference, other than to be a stick to beat him with if he doesn’t perform, in the same way we rinse Pepe and scuba Grealish on here.

Kingralph wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 6:54 amI make that guy correct. Transfer fees were relevant when owners were normal people, when there was a hint of truth about living within one's means etc. In an era where billionaires own football clubs along with other sports assets, and see it as an extension of their personal empire, it has no relevance whatsoever. I couldn't give a shit if Rice costs £5m, or £155m - Kroenke is worth £8bn. There's no such thing as a transfer budget anymore either - not at PL levelOneBardGooner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:39 pmThere was an interesting call on 606 the other day, which, after being on air for about 40 years, I guess there had to be at least one interesting call!Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 4:11 pmOneBardGooner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:47 pmYes, but unlike the dullard, useless price that is Clive... he actually knows what he is pointing at and why?Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:17 pmI've constantly noticed, while watching Rice play for West Ham, that he is another that does a lot of pointing.
