It’s different from other politicians in similar situations though, like Cyril Smith, for example. Brittan was one of Thatcher’s Golden Children and I can see the remaining Tory grandees circling the wagons to make this all go away.

I know what you mean but with the election only 3 months away they will be horribly worried about a cover up story. So it might be better say "gosh was he? how did nobody spot it?" a la saville.

Maybe Chips, maybe. I think though that this, like the fucking farcical Chilcott report delay, will be at least kicked into the next parliament, by which time most concerned will hope that some other crisis will loom over the horizon to distract attention.
