THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Any banners calling for the departure of Wenger at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday will be confiscated

North Korea would be proud.

Looks like the *word censored* in charge have made preserving the cult of personality of the chief *word censored* the main priority once again. Truly sad state of affairs.

Gestapo b.stards - on what grounds will they confiscate them ? If they have a clear fire safety certificate and are not offensive (as the "thanks for the memories" clearly wasnt) then on what grounds can they confiscate them ? I would imagine that they would face a media backlash if it was highlighted that the club allow pro wenker banners but object to everything else - can our protest group make a big fuss of this in the media ?

Exactly, their justification is "anything which may be provocative". Well what about if I find "In Arsene we Trust" provocative? Is that also going to be confiscated? Of course not. The A4 pieces of paper seem to be the only way to go as they can't really check for them and if you have dozens of them then they aren't going to notice every time straight away.

I also laughed at seeing a comment at the weekend that those showing the banner on Saturday were "crass". The banner really couldn't be more respectful and was only shown after the game so as to not detract from the support of the team during the game. It's just unbelievable that some people just don't think any sort of dissent should be allowed.

The ticket/stadium entry Ts & Cs only state that you cannot be in "the possession of a banner or flag that bears material or slogans that are offensive, obscene, abusive or racist" - i've not seen any anti-Wenger banners that fall into that category.

His comments about winning the title by end of 2017 is hilarious. It's the clearest evidence yet that he wants all criticism to be swept under the carpet until end of his contract. Fat chance you grosse merde! I assume in the meanwhile, all criticism should be shelved, and Arsenal fans should carry on paying hiked ST prices, keep their mouths shut, Arsene should be free to carry on his little cash side-pot exercises doing tv punditry, whilst picking up his £8m and every peasant should hush up and carry on felching him eh?
He's a total joke and just goes to show how disconnected from the real world this twat is

if you pay £70 to get into that souless theatre and watch that shite then I have little sympathy. I have absolutely nothing in common with the majority of the people that attach themselves to the club nowadays, it hasn't seemed like arsenal for a long time

Or maybe show that we as a fanbase have balls and stand together when they try to confiscate the banner ? :rubchin:
I accept that many fans do not want to boycott games and/or give up their season tickets, but I do not accept that they should sit there and obey if they are unhappy with the current regime - people talk about not wanting to upset the team but bollocks to that cos most of the time they are 100% complicit in the shambles as they show no heart or conviction on the pitch. Why should anybody in the club be allowed to be allowed drift along in their current slumber with no fear of reprisal ? Wenker should absolutely feel the wrath of those that are paying his £8m per season basic wage and the players should also be made aware that they too are expected to perform at a higher level or else fcuk off

It begins to make sense now, why Wenger was so anxious at the Wigan semi final, which we scraped through, and then the final when we were 0-2 down.
It's all about his contract, he knew that had we failed to beat the might of Wigan & Hull City he would have found it uncomfortable to sign a new deal.
The latest 'we will win the title by 2017' translates to 'judge me at the end of my contract'.
He will say anything to protect his sweet £8m a season salary.
