THE WENGER THREAD
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I agree Augie.
I just don't understand people moaning about the "new" support and think the solution to the problem is to stop going themselves. This just adds to the problem imo.
I don't dig people out for not going...spend your money how you want....but don't act like your some sort of martyr because you don't go....your not.

North Korea would be proud.
"Arsène Wenger has bullishly outlined his certainty that this Arsenal squad can topple Chelsea and again win the Premier League before his contract expires in 2016-17.
Despite a stuttering start to the season that has left Arsenal 13 points behind Chelsea, Wenger is adamant that he has now constructed potentially his best Arsenal team since the side that contained Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri four years ago. Arsenal's chances of catching Jose Mourinho's Chelsea this season already look almost non-existent, but Wenger is adamant that he now has a group that are creating "something special".
Asked if he could win what would be his first Premier League title since 2003-04 during the three years of his contract, Wenger said: "Of course. We have not started very well, but we never had the squad together since the start of the season. It was a post World Cup start typically. I think we have what is requested to do it. We have to fight like mad now to come back as much as possible to show that we can compete in every single game."
Wenger also does not accept that Arsenal have not been competitive over the last decade. "We have fought many times for the title. People always remember who won it, but the fight has been very tight for long periods in the last eight or nine years. We have a big competition in England, we have to accept that. The Premier League level goes always up and this season Chelsea have started very well. They will be difficult to catch, but everybody will fight to come back on them. After 13 or 14 games, you cannot say that the title race is over. You cannot say that is not catchable."
Wenger's analysis is likely to be treated with scepticism by those Arsenal fans who have lost faith in his ability to win a fourth title. Although Arsenal did lead the Premier League for much of last season, there was a slump from February, similar to 2007-08 and 2010-11 when they had also been well placed to challenge.
Arsenal did still finish fourth and win the FA Cup last season, but the debate over Wenger's future has been raging after one group of supporters unveiled a banner against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday saying, "Arsene, thanks for the memories but it's time to say goodbye".
Any banners calling for the departure of Wenger at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday will be confiscated if it is judged that they could incite problems between home fans.
Wenger said that it would be helpful for supporters to stay united. "Ideally, yes, but the most important thing is that internally we are very united. We are creating something special inside the club but that has to come out through performances and games won. Our job is to win football games. That is the best way to unite everybody."
Arsenal certainly are now in a much stronger position to compete financially with clubs like Chelsea and, in buying Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Calum Chambers over the past two summers, have paid the four biggest transfer fees in their history.
Injuries have regularly undermined their challenge in recent seasons and they enter Wednesday's match against Southampton - who are third - with doubts surrounding Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs. Wenger still hopes at least two of those will be available but is also weighing up the possibility of asking Chambers or Hector Bellerin to play out of position at left-back.
The absence in midfield of Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere means that using Mathieu Flamini as a makeshift left-back is not regarded as a viable option. "Cross the fingers and, yes, I think one of the two [Gibbs and Monreal] will make it," Wenger said. "Koscielny could be a problem because his inflammation of the achilles is not completely gone."
The Arsenal manager revealed that Mathieu Debuchy would be back to face former club Newcastle United next week after missing almost three months after ankle surgery. Debuchy is back in full training and, although the match on Wednesday will come too soon for him, he is expected to return next week with goalkeepers David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny."
FFS How Long Must This Madness Continue.....He REALLY HAS LOST THE PLOT - WTF!? He is in need of Psychiatric Help - Can't we have the *word censored* sectioned!?

He Truly is an Embarrassment to THE Arsenal.

We'll be champions by 2017
I'm convinced

This reminds me of when he used to say years ago that his "project" would have failed if Arsenal hadn't won a trophy within X years. Then when X years passed, he would try and spin his way out of it.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
To be honest, wherever he pulled that statement from he has played a blinder, he's effectively turned it from being about him and the team doing poorly to being about the 'loyal' fans supporting him and the team against the dissenters.
He might struggle to understand tactics, say completely insensitive and foolhardy things at times but when it comes to his job being in question and on the line, as well as his £8M a year, he is no fool.
The statement about banners being confiscated is deliberate both to undermine the dissenting fans and to give them pause for thought about displaying them, but it also actively encourages 'loyal' fans to do the opposite.
PR and Spin are wonderful things when used correctly and Arsene FCs PR gurus appear to be very good.

I'd swear that around 2010 he said if he didn't win the league in the next 2 seasons that he would have failed, can't find the quote but I'm almost certain. This is just more of the same BS.

where were these title challenges that he speaks of as well?
I don't recall any meaningful challenges unless he counts all the springtime capitulations like last season

Wasnt it Wenger who said just a few short weeks ago that the title race WAS over??!!Wenger also does not accept that Arsenal have not been competitive over the last decade. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Yeah but that time you speak of was when Arsene had his best squad ever remember? ( and who among us could argue when it contained club legends like Eboue, Song and Denilson). As Wenger rightly pointed out back then, we were just 2% away and the next step was domination.rodders999 wrote:I'd swear that around 2010 he said if he didn't win the league in the next 2 seasons that he would have failed, can't find the quote but I'm almost certain. This time there is something special happening at the club. Who can argue with that after what we've seen this season?
We just need to be a little bit patient.
As the great man himself once said: ''patience is a sign of intelligence''. And the AKBs certainly fell for that clever little brainwashing tactic

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Arsene Wenger, Nov 9th 2014: "Chelsea are on an average of 100 points this season. If you look at the number of points they have, if they keep that up nobody will catch them, that’s for sure. There doesn’t look to be anybody capable of challenging them at the moment."dPmunky wrote:Wasnt it Wenger who said just a few short weeks ago that the title race WAS over??!!Wenger also does not accept that Arsenal have not been competitive over the last decade. I also like this quote;
“We have fought many times for the title. People always remember who won it but the fight has been very tight for long periods in the last eight or nine years."
People always remember who won the title? No fucking shit! That's the whole fucking point! Why would anybody remember those who didn't win it?!

The bloke seems more deluded than ever.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Of course but in Wenger's delusional world he probably sees us as the modern day equivalent of Holland 1974. The moral champions, playing the game the right way etc.Dan_85 wrote:

Either that or Wenger isnt at all deluded and is just a fucking mercenary?
I'm actually swinging towards the latter now. Can someone as intelligent as Wenger really be so stupid at the same time? Or is he fully aware of his limitations on the football side but knows he is the best at manipulating people to keep backing him and paying him a fortune?
Someone should write a book called:
Arsenal Wenger: Revolutionary to Mercenary
I'll contactl Arseblogger and see what he thinks as he seems like a keen writer

Worse still was the news that Laurent Koscielny could face further time on the sidelines having only just returned from an ankle injury in the weekend victory. Wenger said: "Koscielny could be a problem because his inflammation of the Achilles is not completely gone,” which would likely force Chambers into the middle and either Gibbs or Monreal to start regardless of their fitness.
