As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

To be honest, I don't know how good Higuain is so I can't say whether he'd have been a better buy than Ozil or not (as I doubt we'd have signed 2 £30-40m+ players in a month) so I can't cricitise Wenger too much for not completing the Higuain deal when we signed a truly world class player in Ozil.
My gripe is that we didn't sign a striker at all and had to recall Bendtner. I'm sure we all share that frustration (probably Wenger too, so hopefully he brings someone in in January)

He's proven bloody class - notching important goals already this season. We saved an absolute fortune in wages this Summer with the players we shifted even allowing for the Ozil deal. Funny how when we were screaming at the board over the past few years to sign players they used to remind us that player wages needed to be taken into account.....well how about this year when the Chamster, Arshavin, Legohead, Djourou, Vela, Mannone, Squidgy were finally packed on their fucking way. The money was there for the transfer fees and the wages......appalling. Whether you point fingers at Law, Wenger, Gazidis, Kroenke etc, we are where we are and there is a massive collective blame attached to them
This team will be trophyless come May because we're not good enough for two of them, and he doesn't give a shite about the two we can win

Eh? Higuain is a striker, Ozil isn't.
Agreed.
Doesn't change my opinion though. I don't believe we would have spent £80m on 2 Real Madrid players in a month, so I'm not going to criticise Wenger for not signing Higuain when we managed to get Ozil, as I haven't seen enough of Higuain to say we didn't get the better player.
But, that aside, we obviously needed a striker of some sort and didn't manage it. That was crazy and threatens our season.

Sorry, no excuses whatsoever......agent demands, player demands, negotiations on the fees......blah blah blah. 3 months to sort it and no return.
I don't think it's about excuses, and I doubt many people will present any. We all know what happened and who the finger of blame points at (Wenger, if it wasn't obvious ) but the window is shut, we're top of the league and doing okay. Hopefully Giroud carries on performing, and lets hope the midfield provide goals too... then, lets hope we sign a striker in January.
We're top of the league because of who we have played. We were top of the CL Group because we had played the easiest team away and the fourth seeds at home
Now we will see where we are in the League at Xmas when we've played everyone, and where we finish in the CL Group after we've played the two hardest away games
I know the AKBs were mocking when I said we'd taken more PL points against the same opponents last season as if it was some made up fact or something to gloss over, but all I see is a team capable of drubbing shite and still tactically inept and inadequate in key areas of the field who do not learn any key lessons from 1 season to the next

I'm an optimist but obviously we've got much still to prove. Most people know that.
The huge positive of 2013 (well, since March) is a surprising consistency against mediocre teams - especially away from home where most top sides drop points. That's hugely encouraging and shouldn't be underestimated.
The top teams issue is another matter, and the evidence isn't encouraging. We do tend to struggle... again, we all know that.

The game against United on 20 November is pivotal. They haven't had so much uncertainty for a long time. If we roll over and die up there again we will give them the green light they need to get back into it. Beat them and they could face a real shit storm

I think we'll struggle, but I don't think we'll roll over and die either. I do think we've grown over the last 12 months, and our away record (regardless of opposition) suggests we're playing with more focus, desire and mental strength (bingo! ) than I've seen from us in recent seasons, so I'm quietly optimistic that we won't be embarrassed at Old Trafford.
That said, regardless of their results, United will be tough to beat. They're still a good side playing at home and losing narrowly isn't the end of the world. Consistency is the key to a good campaign, and we're doing that at the moment.

Thank god for that - it keeps me going every day knowing that we'll get to play in the competition we'll never win all over again

Did us proud again tonight didn't he, our totally committed gum chewing heavyweight up front. Tear the fucking contract up and show him the same respect he showed us when he turned up 2 stone overweight after the Summer
