THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

personally I agree with the league cup being used to give young players experience, especially in the early rounds
it's the FA cup I've had more of an issue with, I was at Sunderland
we limped out embarrassingly, a proper horrorshow of an away day, hated it
but we played our first XI...

prioritising CL qualification just means prioritising the league
does anybody really want us to give up on the league if we don't think we can win it...?

I want us to win things (at least to challenge)
but as somebody who goes to away games being in the CL IS a big thing for me

Thats not our aim though. When Wenger was asked his priorities he said Premier League, European Cup, Top 4 (the mythical virtual cup), FA cup and Credit Card cup...... but in all honestly 4th place comes at the top of the list doesnt it? Winning the league doesnt matter as much as top 4 finish which IMO is totally wrong

Might get some equally good trips in the EL.

Don't understand.what 4 matters more than 1 really means
You can't miss 1st because you over concentrate on 4th...

CL big nights are special because the whole world is watching
Europa finals on ITV2 or channel 5 or something

99.9% of fans don't expect their team to win trophies
that's not what being a fan is to me

i disagree with this. If you are a fan of football then you are a fan of football but if you are a fan of (insert team name here) then you want to see them succeed and do well and yes, even if only occasionally, WIN!

I support Arsenal because when I wanted to see football, they were in walking distance
that's just what my personal experience of the club is about
winning trophies is great, its not WHY I support the team

Maybe the first knockout round where everybody's watching us get spanked, but rest assured the 'whole world' will have been watching City, Dortmund, Madrid and Ajax rather than watching us play Montpellier or Olympiakos (again :banghead: ).

United in last year's brief EL run got to visit Amsterdam and Bilbao... not bad trips!

Bilbao Baggins and the Basque Hobbits play ledge football
but the World was not watching Channel 5
Don't get me wrong, sure I'd enjoy the away days, I'm looking forward to Bradford rare I get to visit a new stadium
but you know you have a golden ticket for big CL KO games, EL will never be the same

Taking that much pleasure in the world watching us get embarrassed at Barca, Milan and the like is some sort of sadist fetish...
