Bosnian centre-half Emir Spahic today claimed he is on the verge of joining Arsenal.
The 29-year-old Montpellier defender suggested talks between the French club and the Gunners are nearing a conclusion ahead of a £6million move.
Spahic said: "Negotiations are going well, as planned. The deal could be completed in the near future.
"Arsenal are a great club, I am a fan of Arsene Wenger and I hope that Montpellier give the green light for the move."

Wenger, who has lost Sol Campbell, William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos from his squad over the summer, has already captured Lorient central Laurent Koscielny.
But the Gunners chief has been looking to bring in at least one more centre-half, having looked at Werder Bremen's Germany ace Per Mertesacker and the 6ft 2in Spahic, who has already played in Croatia and then spent five years in Russia with three different clubs including the Moscow sides Torpedo and Lokomotiv, would fill the vacancy.
Spahic, whose contract at Montpellier runs to 2014, has played 35 times for his country, scoring twice and demonstrated he is a penalty box threat during his season in France, as the surprise Ligue 1 package finished fifth in their first year after promotion to the top flight.

Like this will happen! One can only wish tho!
Montpellier boss Rene Girard has suggested he is reluctant to allow Spahic to leave the club. Asked about the Arsenal rumours, he told Le Midi Libre: "I'm flabbergasted. There has never been any question of Emir's departure."
He added, jokingly, that he would sell "if the English are willing to give us €25 million".

Awwwwww FFS I am SO DEPRESSED about this Feckin' keeper situation....surely SURELY Wenger - yes even him the tight fisted myopic disillusioned twat can see we NEED A NEW KEEPRfranksav63 wrote:I think if we were in for a keeper, or getting one, he would be here now, so he could be bedded in, in the pre-season friendlies.
On this line of thinking, I also fear, (and I hope I'm wrong) that a keeper isn't on his way here.![]()
