Thats cool, remember goalkeepers need games too... It's one of the worst places in the sqaud been a No 2, he'll get even better when a chance of a run of games comes no doubt.digger wrote:Fair enough, I'm still to be convinced by him. He makes fantastic saves, the occasional fuck up (don't care how hard it is to "scare" him, he fucked up at that throw in the first couple of minutes), no better than Almunia at present.

The problem with the crosses issue I believe comes from watching the 1st team and seeing the blatent need for a keeper to command his area. Good intentions and also more than a little bit of over eagerness on his part but if/when it doesnt work out it leaves him susceptable to criticisms like last night. The question, as magic quite rightly says, is do you want a keeper that will try and command his area or a keeper that wont and wants his defenders to do it ? Personally I would opt for the former and I also believe that the more games the kid gets the more he will improve where as almunia is already in his 30's and is unlikely to get any better at this stage.
The problem with that last part is that a club like ours cannot really afford to give a keeper time to mature especially when the pressure is on like it is now. With that in mind I have always said that buying shay given would be far and away my preferred option in january but allowing for the fact that we all know that wenger wont buy a quality keeper then I would rather stick with fabinski

I think in a way it's better, there's a clear competition for that spot now. In this instance we'll see what they are both made of, if they can't handle it then both do not deserve to be number 1 but Fabianski for me can make it.digger wrote:It's got to be worse when you're #2 to a keeper who isn't particularly world class.... at least you'd know where you stand with Cech in front of you. The problem for Fabianski is a club like Arsenal should have the very very best in goalkeeping talent, so he could easily slip down to #3.

Come on guys! I think some of you are being very harsh on him.
Personally I think he's more then pushing Alumina for the No 1 spot.
Apart from the cross which wasn't a fuck up but a judgement error I still had alot of confidence in him. More convidence then I have with Alumunia.
I saw him come out for lose balls at ease, Collect crosses with confidence and made some strong saves. Not counting the save towards the end.
The problem is with all goalkeepers is that there mistakes are strongly highligted. Ramsey made some several dodgy passes and Vela lost the ball a few times. But we're not talking about them!?! (both of which players I belive will be absolutley fantastic players.)
Goal keeper don't hit there peak until the age of 30+, Seaman joined us from QPR at the age of 27, Fabianski is only 23!! and therefore is still learning the game and has another 5+ before he really hits top form.

I think this is something of a myth. The ball moves a lot more now so keepers need to be a lot more agile (you don't get chubby lumps like Neville Southall, Tim Flowers, Chris Woods, Peter Shilton etc playing in the top leagues now)... the best keepers in the world (arguably) are Casillas and Cech.... they're both mid 20s and have been at the top for ages.Boomer wrote:Goal keeper don't hit there peak until the age of 30+, Seaman joined us from QPR at the age of 27, Fabianski is only 23!! and therefore is still learning the game and has another 5+ before he really hits top form.
