Jade Goody

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Belfast Boy wrote: Good post Cus and I personally blame the gutter press for seizing on a chance to sell papers and blowing it out of all proportion and even tho she shouldn't have treated Shilpa as she did it came across to me more as a lowbrow girl with little class, intelligence and even less education bullying a girl who she felt threatened by purely because she was everything that she couldn't be and that's why Shilpa never even looked like retaliating as she knew she had the high ground!

Now of course they're using her current plight to sell even more papers, probably without a hint of conscience that their hounding and branding, which no doubt have made her life a nightmare for the last 3yrs or so could well have contributed to her untimely death
I agree with you about the tabloid press 100%. Their cynicism and nastiness never knows no bounds.

As for Shilpa, there was a lot about her that pissed me off quite frankly.

I felt there was a snobbish and condescending attitude with her, throughout that CBB.

She said something like 'oh is this what the UK is like today, isn't it scary'. That's very fucking rich, if she spent 5 minutes in Mumbai's version of Bermondsey she'll do more than sob. She can probably see the slums from her ivory tower over there in Mumbai, but does she give a fuck? Also a caste system where the 'dilats' or 'untouchables' at the bottom of that system eat rats to survive, nobody from her social class cares a toss for that so who's she to comment on our social problems.

Also the 'this is your claim to fame, well done' quote. Does Shilpa herself have any other claim to fame? Certainly not over here and if you ask any Asians they all tell you she's like an Indian version of Liz Hurley, more famous for being famous than any films she's actually been in.

There was a lot of disingenous sentiment throughout that episode, especially from the press. You get the feeling that because Shilpa happened to be better looking than Jade that helped a lot.

Plus the fact that the only one of the three who still gets work despite coming out with comments like 'she should fuck off home' is entirely because she poses naked and gets her tits out for the lads and titilates with her dalliances with black footballers. Where did the moral outrage towards her go?

I'm no Jade Goody fan. Far from it.

But I'm disgusted by the attitude of many people, who think it's actually quite funny that a young woman is dying from an awful disease. And leaving young children without a mother.

For fuck's sake, get a grip. It's not fucking funny. It never will be.

I quite enjoy a sick joke. But not when it's personal.

I'm not a great fan but I will say this.
This young woman saw an opportunity to improve her life and she took it. She has never been the diva that many of these people thrust into celbrity become. She has always remained true to who she is. I admire her for making a go of it.
This disease is pure evil and its effects are widespread. It hasn't ruined the life of one person here, it's ruined an entire family. Her children will have to grow up without their mother. Her mother will outlive her daughter and that should never happen, and her fella, although I don't have a lot of time for him, will lose his woman.
I honestly don't know how you cope with knowing that your dying. It must be awful. My heart goes out to the girl and her family. I hope they are strong together and get through this terrible ordeal and that Jade is remembered as a normal girl that did well for herself without becoming somebody else. Bloody evil bastard disease!

Well for a start she could have followed Jane Tomlinsons example and used the time to promote and raise money for research and help for others suffering the same fate. But, no, it is all about getting as much money as she can for herself and her family.

Just read the first report I've come across about her. Think its a bit of a joke that, firstly, she has this opinion of herself that anyone really gives a shit about her plight as if she is more important than any other cancer victim across the globe. Secondly, its even more disturbing to see that people are interested enough to care about pictures of her christening or her rushed wedding to some poor guy.

Who does she think she is? A Big Brother star? Well that says it all doesn't it? Applying for that in the first place would need some sort of voyeuristic twist anyway. Now she wants to die publicly too.

Its quite disgusting actually. Both from her and the English public that condone it.

Well firstly raising money for cancer research is the responsibility of us all, seeing that it effects must of us or our famillies at some point and how much have you donated to Cancer research recently?

It seems that many have done just that in the aftermath of the Jade saga, despite people having less spare cash than last year.

http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/news/di ... ations.php

It seems there is also an increase in women taking smear tests as a result

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/fe ... jade-goody

Also, Supporting Jade's family is the responsibility of her alone, in fact if a single mother from Bermondsey didn't take care of her own family and relied on others the very same judgemental type of people who are condemning her for seeking publicity would be condemning her for that instead, no?

Jade is also her family's sole breadwinner and there will be no more addition to their wealth once she's popped her clogs so surely it makes sense to earn a few bob in the process, seeing that Jack would probably be spending his time in the nick and Jackiey is a one armed crack addict who can barely look after herself.

Well the newspapers and the people who's demand they seem to supply seem to be of the opinion that her plight is newsworthy enough, so I wouldn't quite accuse her of being full of self-importance in this one.

Not strictly true , though they have a father alive ( Jeff Brazier ) who should assume responsibility for their care. And are the women who are now demanding smear tests so dumb they hadn`t heard of cervical cancer before???

Jeff Brazier, whom I have actually met personally, is a second rate non-league footballer of yesteryear and failed TV presenter.

I can really see that paying the public school fees for the next 13 years, then the university fees after that.

As for the increasing women taking smear tests, well, you can speculate their level of intelligence all you like, but the facts speak for themselves. The number of women taking smear tests have gone up since the notoriety of Jade's illness.

And you mention that famous people with cancer must somehow go round and alert the public of the need to raise cash for a cure for cancer, are the general public so dumb that they are unaware that cancer still has no cure, and effects such a large number of people?
