I have an Oirish grandad and a Dutch grandad but I am English through and through.
I just allow the Oirish to brew my fave tipple for me.

Came from Spittalfield Market. The porters used the local taverns for a booze-up. Every tavern brewed it's own beer.
One of the taverns overcooked the ingredients, by mistake.
The beer ended up black, and slightly bitter.
The porters got a taste for it. The beer became known as "Porter".
Arthur Guinness discovered it. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Swap those two counties for Leitrim and Monaghan, i'm exactly the same. I wouldn't consider myself "Irish" or "English" though...donaldo wrote:Mother born in Cork.
