Welcome back Bobby Pires

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

In October 2003 at Anfield when he got the winner with a brilliant shot. We won 2-1 after being 1-0 down. And he won us the FA Cup in 2003 after missing the end of the previous season with his knee injury.

I read Gordan Strachan's Auto Biography & he pointed out that everytime he played against us he saw Pires as the threat

Also he is a legend for that quote he made when Spurs tried to sign him from Villarreal

It went something like "Is this a joke ? Do they not remember where I come from ? They can enquire if they want, but I won't play for Tottenham"

I'm surprised Durham isn't mangling it into some sort of anti Arsenal tirade as we speak.

An all-time great.Remember he turned down Real Madrid to join us instead. The partnership of Pires and Henry was almost telepathic.
He deserves and will get a brilliant welcome back

Agreed ! Rob was supurb - Henry, Viera, Bergkamp, Pires.........(sigh)......He deserves - and I'm sure will get - a great reception.

Pascal, too, deserves some credit. He was mach better - IMO - than many, otherwise thought.

I hadn't seen this quote before, absolutely superb! Pires is right up there as one of my all-time favourite gunners - comfortably the most underrated of the 'Musketeers' but still playing at a very high level.

A great bloke but an even better player.

If he hadn't got injured I reckon he might have been up there with Zidane. It's hard to compare players in different positions but I'd say that up until that Newcastle game in March 01/02 he was the best attacking midfielder I've ever seen. Every time he got the ball he made something happen,. He did well to come back and was still a great player but I can't help to think what could have been. I reckon he could well have made a difference in the world cup for his country that year as well.

He got the reputation as a diver for that one thing against Pompey that I can show you videos of Rooney doing at least once a season!
