Always been a week over here for as long as I can remember. However, mates mum died the last week and they are having to wait amlost three weeks.

This is not unsual in that part of Bedfordshire which has an above normal population muslims. Seems they are getting priority over local s as they are buried/cremated withon 24 hours.

Allegedly true story.

Somebody had his mobile phone put in the coffin with him. Because he was so fond of it.

During the burial, a relative got a call from that same number. Scary.

Turns out that that O2/Vodaphone/Orange had made an error, and re-issued the number to another person.

My sister married into an Irish family.

When her husband died (a smashing fella, I miss him) we had a church service in Sussex one day, and a burial in London the following day.

Jim is the only man I know of, who had TWO wakes. Both were hugely enjoyable. And a proper celebration of the man's life.

Jim's sister's husband died recently. Being a proper Irishman, he loved his Guinness. As a mark of respect, every man at his wake drunk nothing but Guinness. And a very nice pint it was, too.

The Irish wake is quality. When my dad died last year all these guys that had worked for us over the years flew home from Aus, States, England etc and we got lashed out of it, told some great stories about back in the day and paid tribute to him. It got me through it big time.

We always leave a full pint to the side for the deceased too. And any barman that attempted to remove it before the end would get killed.
