Disappointment

Post by Shellshock »

I love this forum. It's just like listening to 5 live. We won this week - we must be brilliant. We lost this week - we must be crap. If TeeCee bought his season ticket inthe late 70s then he missed the mid 70s and 60s and most of the 50s when we were absolute garbage. Try explaining away a Wembley defeat to a team from 2 divisions below. Any of you remember the away trip to Ayresome Park when John Radford scored a last minute winner to keep us out of the bottom 3 in 1975(ish)? No, I thought not. Apart from 1970 to 1973, we did stuff all for 25 years until the FA Cup Final appearance in 1978 (when we also didn't turn up on the day). No F.A. Cup Semi-Finals to even moan about. You're all just glory boys - if you don't like what you see why don't you take a hike down the seven sisters road ?

Did anybody really expect us to perform defensively yesterday ? We have 5 defenders missing unless you hadn't noticed. Chatting to other gooners on the tube to Wembley - everybody was concerned about the defence. We agreed that it was going to be a close game but it would be down to a piece of brilliance or a mistake and we feared the worst.

I notice how the TV today made great play of ManUre's team of youngsters with an average age of 22. Ours was 23 (if Djourou had been fit and played instead of Silvestre it would have been 22) but I gather that nobody said a word. Illustrates how much they grown this season.

Loved the "John Terry's mother is a thief" song. A must for 10th May !!

Come on you Gunners.

That's a bit arrogant, don't you think? You're not the only fan that remembers the 'bad old days' as a fair few of Wenger's critics on here have been following the Arsenal since the 60's. As for the 'glory boys' and 'hike down the seven sisters road' insults, that just dilutes your argument even further - although to be fair, it was already as watered down as a pint of Harp larger anyway!!

I have had to bite my tongue over the past few months whilst we were on the fantastic run and the team showing gweat pwotential. So its not being over reaccionary at all. This is the first decent team we had faced since November and what do we got from le boss....excusses about the pitch, excusses about the amount of games.
Then he saws his bollocks off by saying that Theo is only 20 and shouldn't be too desperate for trophies!!! The bloke is seriously out of touch, too cushy and comfortable. Only the CL now and with the likes of Eboue, Denilson, Diaby and all the other very average players we are unlikely to overcome Utd AND a much better Barca side than 96.
Cue more excusses about the marorality of sport and winning next season while hiding behind the 'gweat pwotential' to avoid the stress and question asking as to why we are not competing at every level NOW

typical poor initial article? (bit short to be called that though), as per usual from this author.

if the team fails to win a trophy this season, that will be 5 years barren. simply not acceptable for a club of this magnitude(yes i know we used to be crap small fry before wenger came, that is relative to the big european boys, but now we're on par with them), and someone must take responsibility.

As far as i can predict, no one will, the manager or the crappy squad players (denilson (mr sideways pass/not bother to track back when i constantly give possesion away)/fabianski will never be good enough for arsenal even as reserves) so whats the point if no one ever takes responsibility for the failings. so far only edelman has gone obviously for the almighty cock up around our finances.

the unbeaten run has been against shite opponents, so too much shouldnt have been read into it, and virrareal were woeful at the emirates.

Squeaky bum time is very much afoot for the club and this group of players, between now and the end of the season we will see what theirreally made of.

Despite the recent run of good form, I am still to be convinced by the "usual suspects", and when good or great performances from these players become the norm, rather than the exception, I will happily admit I was wrong to doubt.

Just to balance things up, I should probably start admitting I was wrong about Song. I thought he played really well last night, in a match where the midfield were generally overrun, his effort, and at times skill under pressure, were very encouraging.

The thing is, if we had stayed at Highbury (and I'm not saying I thought we should), and spent little money on the squad then I don't think anyone could argue about our current position. BUT.......when you have spent over £300m to be at least amongst the best in the world, it is somewhat laughable to have a first team squad being made up by a good 50% of what can only be described as average, mid table quality players (at best). Wenger knows his job is safe regardless, just as the likes of Adebarndoor and some of the others know they'll play 90% of games if fit. There is no competition at the club and that has bred the sort of complacency that I've never seen before in an Arsenal team.

I for one am not saying Wenger out BUT questions need to be answered.
I cannot for the life of me understand why a centre back was not bought last summer/January window. Song is winning me over but that is it. The likes of Diaby, Eboue, Denilson wanker lazy bastard,Bendtner, Fabiclowny are NOT and Never will be making Arsenal seriously compete for the Title & domestic/European cups.
I hate this current board with their old Etonean values, Do YOU care if Arsenal go another £75 million in debt but Wenger has the financial power to go and get 3 world class players?? The squad cries out for several world class players (look at the Ashavin influence). It boosts current players moral, makes them less secure therefore they are sharper in EVERY game.
Last season we deserved the title and blew it, however if I was a Fabregas or Clichy and you see Chelsea, Manure,Villa,Spuds,Liverpool all invest while your club looses Flamini and sells Gilberto, what will that do to your belief in the upcoming season and your long term loyalty??
