Toure needs a rock alongside him, he always has done, whether it was Keown or Campbell, when they played he looked superb. His biggest asset has always been his pace. It can get him out of trouble and that plays well alongside a towering partner. Gallas is not that sort of player hence all the recent problems. Where Gallas is much better is he is able to read the game and therefore is much better positionally. The biggest problem is lack of leadership, leading to lack of organisation. Might sound strange but it might only take one player to make this a pretty decent defence.

Quite who that player is I don’t know. I like the look of Hangerland as a player but I am not sure if he is a leader.

Captain Fabregas wrote:erm...he is the best CB we have...just this season he got fat and got malaria + a funny haircut and hasn't really been the same. To be fair he is surrounded by a shower of shit in defense with him.
Gallas is a much better defender. Toure is probably one of the best all-round footballers at the club, but jack of all trades, master of none. The best defences all have one articulate defender and one mountain of hoof. Arsenal's defence has functioned like that for years... Bould + Adams, Keown + Adams, Keown + Campbell, Toure + Campbell, but now we have two articulate footballers. All we needed last night was someone capable of sticking their laces through the ball and getting it 70 yards upfield.

Digger I'm confused by your pairings.

Bould + Adams, Bould being the articulate, Adams the hoof?

Keown + Adams, Adams now becoming the articulate, Keown the hoof?

Keown + Campbell, Keown now becoming the articulate, Campbell the hoof?

Toure + Campbell, Toure articulate as he is now, Campbell the hoof?

Sorry mate but that point don't make no sense.

Toure has had a good second half of the season alongside Gallas but without him, he resembles the struggling player of last year. Not a top class centreback though not a bad one

I may have a incredible bias towards Kolo but that aside i feel this season...fine teh second half...kolo has been slowly returning to his best..the fact i have heard people on this site say his 'best' wa sonly a 'decent jack of all trades' makes mewant to vomit......there was a time when kolo was one of the best centre backs in the prem. He was awful last season but recntly he has been great i feel.....yes we have made terrible defensive mishaps.....AS A UNIT and u could argue that he should be 'rallying' the team but rallying only goes so far...maybe some more defensive coaches to help the boys at the back work together? but not calling kolo poor if u watch our last few games and anyalyse his perforances he has been good-getting back to his best...slowly but surely

I agree people are being way harsh on Kolo. He has one of his poorer games against Liverpool. Fine. But he has been immense for us the second half of the season and was a great captain when he needed to be. Silvestre is making him look a lot worse than he is because he is having to cover up for Silvestres lack of pace, and overall shittiness. Plus Sagna had a shocker so he had to cover a lot. Like someone said, Kolo needs a decent partner, as does every great central defender. Vidic has even been poor in some of the games without Ferdinand this season.
