I'd say the BaBa's had been on the piss for the week after beating England Ram!

Good to see D'Arcy in a Lions shirt too. He should have been called up earlier in my opinion. Harsh that the poor fucker had just landed in America to start his holiday when he got the call up. I'd have been pissed off by that. Why didn't ya phone me weeks ago ya fuckers!!!!

Another unconvincing win for the Lions but at least Stephen Ferris looks like he's playing himself onto the test 15.

That would explain a lot!

I'm hoping Italy get just as badly this weekend to show it wasn't just a one off thing. Hopefully the Aussies can win the Bledisloe and Tri-Nations this year.

And yeah, I don't see why D'Arcy wasn't in the Lions squad from day one.

Ferris went well too. Think they should change the name to the Irish and British Lions, just to put the better contingent first.

Fucking hell this Lions tour has been jinxed from the off. After bigging up Stephen Ferris the other days he's now out of the tour with a knee ligament injury. Along with Lee Byrne he's been the stand out performer on Tour so far for me. Fuck!!!

So thats O'Leary, Flannery, Shanklin, Halfpenny coupled with Quinlan's suspension gone from the tour now!

And it's all the the top players from Ireland and Wales that we're losing rather than any of the lesser lights from Scotland and England!!!

Not going well in the first test.

Problem is too many Englishmen in the team, Stephen Jones starting ahead of Ronan O'Gara, and the Kiwi ref having a massive bias towards the South African scrum.

(Although their front row is absolutely killer. The Beast is a terrifying prospect, would hate to pack in against that!)

Tom Croft?

Southern hemisphere referee not doing the Lions any favours in the first half.

Great game - Like Roberts, O'Driscoll and Phillips. Just left it too late against a very good SA side which was tiring at the end.

Unfortunately next 2 games at altitude so a big task from here on in.

Good finish. Gives me some hope for the next two tests, but need to make some changes in the squad.

- I'd guess Kearney will start at fullback in the next one, but not sure about Byrne's injury situation. Kearney was a much better performer though, especially in the second time. (Although Byrne's time was cut very short.)

- Front row. Big issues in that starting front row. Jones was good when he came on in the second half. Would start him. Need to find away of combating that starting front row of South Africa, difficult as it may be.

- O'Gara must play. Stephen Jones offers nothing better in terms of attacking options, but in my opinion O'Gara is the better kicker of the two, both in play and in goalkicking. Take into account those two kickable penalties Jones missed and the match might have looked different.

- Monye...really don't know...seems like an ok player...but two bombed chances from him...

The centre pairing of the Lions is fantastic, Roberts and O'Driscoll complement each other so well its impossible not to wonder how brilliant they could be if they played together more often. Alas...

Phillips is a great scrumhalf.

Bowe looks sharp and dangerous on the wing, needs to get himself more involved, like when he came centre field in the second half hunting for some possession.

...And one last thing...this is the first time I've genuinely hated a South African team...normally I support them against New Zealand in the Tri-Nations, but there was some real low stuff there. 1. Habana (who I rate incredibly highly as a player) getting fiesty for no real reason - come on mate, you aren't going to hurt anyone on a rugby pitch in a straight fight so don't go looking. 2. Those subs towards the end...were the 'injuries' perhaps a bit of a piss poor excuse to just get Pienaar and Smit back on the field? Hmm... and 3. South African commentators...bastards...they announced that the game was 'over' as soon as the 'boks scored their last try and did nothing but talk up their own players all game. :banghead:

Good analysis RaM...for an Australian :D

Unfortunately, SA kicked equally difficult penalties to those Jones missed and the Lions suffered for that.

Forgot to mention Bowe who looked sharp but as you said wasn't in it as much as he should have been.

And Monye...yep, can't make my mind up either....was given 2 great positions and didn't deliver the try that looked likely in both.

Finally, the SA commentators really are something else...although they did concede towards the end that a reversal might be on the cards. Maybe all commentators get a bit patriotic like this :?: 8)

Another note on South Africa's kicking game, outside of their penalties and conversions, their fullback, Steyne, is more than capable of kicking a mighty drop goal. Talking 50 metres easy here - and in high altitude conditions the ball travels a good deal more than it normally would. I don't know if I'd discount 60 metres off a tee from him up there.

And of the two flyhalves O'Gara is the more likely to match him. Think I remember a long range drop goal (48 metres or so) in a Test match between Ireland and South Africa over there a couple of years back.

And yes, think commentators of all countries can be like that. But not always so annoying...and why should foreign countries have to listen to them!

Good point re Steyne...he can certainly punt it a long way and will surely benefit from the conditions in the next two tests. I think O'Gara scored quite a long range goal in the last six-nations match.

Looking forward to the next test...

Can't understand why Jones was picked over O Gara in the first place? Hook fair enough but no way Jones who was apalling in the last warm up game he played.

Just a pity the lions really only started playing when the game was practically beyond them. Still there's plenty of positives to take into next Saturdays second test!

1-1 would certainly set up a belter of a decider!

COME ON!
