You cannot overstate the lift the signing of PV4 would give the team much less the fans. I know that many will claim, with justification, that his best days are behind him but for my mind he would still be an upgrade on song, denilson, silvestre and I dont even need to mention diaby  I think that his presence alone would lift the other players and he would bring back a bit of steel to the team. Personally I think that I would try him out at centre back 1st as I feel with his heading ability alongside either vermaelen or gallas gives us that balance we have been missing in the centre back partnership for the last 4 seasons. Anyway if it is a pay as you play deal what have we got to lose ? 8) :barscarf:

This cannot be serious

And I am sure it is not.

Pat's a shadow of the player he was. What is so difficult about finding a central midfielder who can play at the top level and provide some kind of learership, input and grit ?

If Wenger can't do this with £30 million plus in his hand, he should follow Viera out the club and make way for some one who will at least make the attempt.

I know what you are saying rob but do you not agree that he would still be streets ahead of song, denilson and diaby ? Lets be honest wenger is not going to spend that kitty and if it comes to a choice between signing PV4 or signing no DM then I know which I would choose. Anyway as I said above I would sign him as a CB cos our balance is still all wrong in that area. Listen even if he only played a quarter of our games his very presence at the club would be priceless and he would sure as hell put some fire in the bellys of those *word censored* who do not seem to appreciate how lucky they are to be playing for our club  :x

I'm with Rob on this one. I want to remember Paddy in his pomp facing up to Roy Keane not some crock in his mid 30s who'll struggle to play 90 minutes. Bring him in as a coach by all means.

After my initial enthusiasm I started to think about this and while it will be a psychological boost for the club as a whole on the playing side I am not so sure.

Viera is nowhere near the player we remember. Those long telescopic legs are no longer what they were and keep in mind that Inter do not let players go for virtually free for nothing. Also, a player on a pay as you play deal surely shows that this is a risky signing. How many games a year can Viera do these days in the Premiership? I see someone has comparred this to the Owen situtaion at Man Yoo but I would say they are very different. Owen is four years younger for a start and also the fact he is a centre forward means that he can be rotated and rested when need be. Who are Arsenal going to rotate Paddy with and how often? Is getting say 20 Premiership games and whatever in the CL good enough? I cannot see Paddy doing 90 minutes on a Wednesday in say Moscow and then do it all again on Saturday at home to whoever.

Paddy is my absolute god amongst gods. I think he transformed Arsenal as much if not more than Bergkamp and Henry. The Premiership had never seen a player like it before and he bullied and scared the shit out of everyone with the possible exception of Keane.

Whilst I do want the move to happen, if only to keep him out The Heebs hands, I do hope that it does not cloud the wonderful memories we have of Viera in his pomp.

One last thing, yes he is a hero, yes he is a legend but it tells you something about our club that we are signing 33 year olds that are well past their prime. Not so long ago we was selling legends because they were 30, sign of the times hey!

Oh and Augie, Viera at centre-half.............not in a million years!

Im excited about the prospect of him coming back but he isnt the player he was and it would be a shame to see him struggling to get to a similar level. Not sure if my excitement is due to the fact if he joins us he wont be playing for the scum down the road

Would love the return of paddy my fav arsenal player. would give us everything we have been crying out for height, power, experience, leadership (not slating fabs by the way) and a lift for the fans.

Hate to be a party pooper but there has been no comments, quotes or insider stories, so im not going to pin my hopes on a couple of passing comments from wrighty on his radio station!

PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN :D :D :barscarf:

I'd fucking sign him just to stop him ever pulling on that fucking scum jersey. It must be worth a pay as you play contract for that alone!!

Gus, do you remember wilmbledon away (I think it was in the 97/98 season) when PV4 had to be switched back into defence not long after the game started as one of our centre halves got injured and he was fcuking immense 8) I havent seen one member yet come on here though and say that they would prefer to have song/denilson/diaby ahead of him although I accept we are still waiting for the comments of swale/bdb/atounge so no doubt they will laud the devopment of those mentioned

I would on the basis the three of them can actually run

I don't know, if this is the answer to our dm problems then we are doomed. If he is willing to spend most of the team out of squad but provide leadership and experience while being paid very little, great. Still, we have 40 million, we must be able to get somebody better
