After reading the comments here I'm starting to feel a bit down and pessimistic. I think that we all know fellas that its unlikely that there will be any more signings this summer. At the end of last season Arsene said he was "looking to sign one, perhaps two super, super class players" What we have is a full-back who "was a solid performer for Auxerre last season" and a striker who played for the one half decent team in a very, very poor league. Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased with what we've seen so far from Sagna and Eduardo, and they have definately strengthed our squad. I think I was just expecting more.
My biggest fear is that AW is set on playing many games with one up and a support striker, even at home. I still expect to see the opposition packing the midfield, looking to be solid and trying to nick a goal. We struggle with this and it has proved effective for teams too often over the past couple of seasons for any half decent manager to ignore.
With our gossamer thin squad and RVP seemingly the only reliable source of goals, I can only see us struggling to challenge. It really is a battle for 4th place.
I need reassuring. Shoot my views down in flames. Alay my fears. Be brutal. Cheer me up, PLEASE !!

Well can't disagree with many of the excellent posts on this thread, the advantage of squad strength and actual on field muscle is with our rivals, but we're not that bad in the middle of the park altho maybe not yet at our peak!
I don't think we going to be to be anywhere as short of goals as we were last season cos surely it's impossible to have another chances to goals ratio like that two years runnin - isn't it???
I know we were about twenty goals off ManUre but we were only 1 goal behind the Chavs without TiTi and RvP for over a season between them which I know cuts right to the heart of the matter - cover, but I still think last season was a freak drought goals wise and if we can learn to break down the teams that are not too proud to play ten men behind the ball against us then we will surprise a few people this year!
We need to and can get off to a flyer cos if anything does do for our title ambitions it'll be the run in towards the end of the season and it worries me cos even the Chavs were lookin tired last year albeit pushing for the quadruple!

What disappoints me most is the feeling we have lost out on players we would normally have got on board!
Maybe the statements from departing players, Arsene's contract and maybe even the takeover made Arsenal a less attractive prospect than other clubs this summer!
Seems weird to me even now we are saying we want to strengthen the squad as we all know those who were realistically available have been cherry picked already!
The money was there so I dont really understand what else held us back from the "super super class" signings!

I have voiced it before and i will again the lack of spending is totally tied up with the potential takeover and the position of Le Boss. I reckon this season has been marked down as another holding season where hopefully the young players will step up to the plate but not too much is expected. Sure there will be the usual rallying crys but its more in hope rather than expectation.I honestly think this has all been planned since when the new stadium project was first on the drawing board. They all knew there would be 2 or 3 fallow years where the team would have to be suffer.
I shall come back on here next May and eat my words but i think this is where we are going.

The big concern I have is that unless we have a really good season I think Cesc will be the next on the conveyor belt out of here next summer. We all know that the 2 spanish giants (or should that read c*nts) will be knocking on our door for him next summer and given our history of letting players walk away I think we are destined for even more heartbreak here. The player himself will be hungry for success and will look at the current boards relectance to spend cash on the team and will probably decide to go to a club that are genuinally serious about being a big club with ambitions. I fear that even improvement alone this season won't be enough to convince the likes of cesc about the future so it is VITAL that we make the necessary signings now

Not only will we lose Cesc if we do not improve considerably this year i believe the main man Arsene will walk as well. He has said another season like last year is unacceptable.A marked improvement will need to be shown before Arsene even thinks of signing a new contract.Any one who saw his post match interview in Amsterdam would have seen how touchy he became when asked about signing a new contract. And that is going to be a question he will be asked at every press conference this season

Maybe it's Wenger's decision not to spend big, and not the board's. Maybe he hasn't seen anyone that he considers to be worth the valuations.
And Cesc will play for Barcelona one day, no question. Just a question of if we can see his best years at Arsenal.

The board do tend to take a lot of flak aabout lack of " superstar" signings we haven't made . I'm struggling to ever remember Wenger signing so called "Superstar" signings..I think he turns players into superstars & it this rather then the board's reluctance to back him that has disapointted so many people this summer.... For the record I think we light up front & a quick winger who can score 40 gaols a season wouldn't go a miss !!
