I thought when SSN said about the captains armband being given to Gilberto that it would end the Juve transfer
But now the papers have some shite to fill in for the morning i guess

A shocker in my view but we had 3 very goood players up for the armband with Kolo, Gilberto & Willy up for it
On tuesday at members day i really thought Kolo got it despite Willy being the captain during the pre season in the 2 cups as he was asked how did it feel to pose with the captains armband?
He replied that he was exited & that he was ready for the season & who thinks Arsenal can win the league
Gilberto proved me wrong last season as i said that he had a poor 05/06 season & he blew me away, so much that when i met him in the club shop at Christmas time i couldn't help but say how well he played the night before against Chelsea (away) & with a huge smile on his face & a hand shake he became my player of the season stright away
Hnery came back for a short while from an injury & had a good Januray in which he got a number of goals for the Gunners & then he got injured in the PSV game & that was it
Gilberto was a fine stand by captain & only being there since the 2002/03 season it must of felt very strange but he still caried on & lead the Gunners to 4th in the league
With Gallas getting the armband i am pleased that he got it as he always comes over to the fans on most days & thanks them for being there being useually the only player to do it & doing it since day 1
We need someone who is a fan fav with the fans & thats what we've had in the past & Willy is fast proveing to be one despite his mouth getting in the way of things (must be a french thing lol)
Lets just hope once again that Arsenal will have a better season & do something insted of a pre season wonder double
COME ON THE GUNNERS

Quite right, All Arsenal.

Am I the only one who won't be too devastated if Gilberto leaves? Yeah, he scored a few penalties last year, but I really think this could be the season for Diaby; and seeing as no one in their right mind would drop Fabregas, that means that Gilberto would have to make way. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against Bert, but I just don't think him being sold would be the "disaster of the summer" as IW8Goalmachine put it.

There are two ways to become Arsenal Captain;

1. Be Coloured and French

2. Moan a lot about the club and make it clear you will leave at the first chance

Oh hang on, they are actually one in the same, aren't they

In my opinion losing Gilberto wouldn't be too big a loss for us, as it will free up our midfield for the likes of Diaby and Denilson.

Like the bloke, but the team can be effective without him.

Totally agree Tony and RaM!

He has been a good player for us over the last few seasons! Nothing more nothing less! Bert will always have a soft spot with me for being the most unskillfull Brazilian ever!

However he is approaching the 1 year contracts scenario and with Abou lookin like a young Viera on steroids in pre-season I feel we have the perfect foil for Cesc in the making! I don't want Bert to go now but if Abou grows into the role this season I think it could be good business!

Be interesting to see who plays in the middle with Cesc on Sunday!

I can't believe you lot will not be too bothered if we lose Gilberto.

I think it would be a mini catastrophe if he left. OK, I know we have
Diaby and Denilson pushing for regular places, healthy competition is a
good thing.

But Christ do you think we wont pick up any midfield injuries this
season?
We need a BIG squad of quality players. Two teams in effect.
To get us through all competitions and the push for a high league
position.

Those of you that think the loss of the current captain of Brasil would
not be too much of a problem, are in my opinion delusional.

Remember some of Berts performances last season ?

You've got some short memories my friends.

We don't have another Gilberto, somebody who in the big games, will keep things quit in the centre, sweeping up, intercepting and disrupting the opposition play. Ok sometimes we need someone like Diaby instead of Gilberto for games of muscle but still would want to keep the Brazil Catpain for the big games

Nobody is doubting that Bert has done a fantastic job for us...at times! More precisely recently!

However if there is anywhere were we are reasonably well covered its in the middle of the park.

I do though want to see Abou play more games for us this season as the guy has undoubted class and has the balls and spirit the same as Paddy! Anyone who gets their ankle broken and dislocated at the same time but still gets up wanting to fight the perpretrator gets my seal of approval!

Also you never know what has gone on behind closed doors! Bert may well have said to Le Boss he would like to finish his career elsewhere, one final move. Arsene may have agreed to this but asked for one more season out of him while Abou etc develop and then he will grant him his wish!

Nobody is knocking Bertie and his commitment, performances and leadership last season were fantastic! However I think there is a strong chance they were the crest of the wave and as good as it gets!

Maybe it would be good for Bert to go out on top!

Yeah, it would be sad to see Gilberto become a squad player after years of fantastic first teamer performances. I would like to see more of Diaby as well and think that in terms of controlling a game, Diaby is better but Gilberto is the greater holding player. Depends what we need for the spefici game, Bolton is a Diaby type game, Man U is a Gilberto one if you know what I mean?
