UEFA investigating "dive"

Players have been banned retrospectively before for diving.

I remember someone got a two game ban for taking a tumble against Scotland is some qualifying game or the other.

But why start it now?is it because it was an Arsenal player? I have seen far worse acts of simulation, at least the keep touched him, even if it was slightly...

Why did this not start when Rooney went over against us when nobody touched him, or one of 267 times Ronaldo has won a penalty after no contact? or after a Van Nistelrooy run into the box and fall on your face special?

Im absolutely fucking outraged by this, if anything comes of it it will show what a farce it all is!
It started in 2007 when UEFA gave a 2 match ban to Lithuania striker Saulius Mikoliunas. He went over in the penalty area to "earn" a spot kick for his side against Scotland.

So there is a precident. I fear for Eduardo :(

Radford thinks this is such a bollocks its untrue. he got away with it. end of.

As for posters saying things like they're disappointed etc you need to get real. EVERYBODY has "cheated" at sport in one form or another. so fucking what.

Radford further states that the septics have refs all over the pitch and video playbacks and they still get it wrong.

Radford applauds Ed for wining us a penalty.

Fair enough, if there's a precedent, why is it never acted upon? diving happens every single week, many are just as blatant as Eduardo's dive. I'd love to see it completely eraticated, but it's never going to happen if only isolated dives are punished.

If the Eduardo dive is what finally convinces UEFA/FIFA/The FA to use video evidence to punish cheats, then great! - give Eduardo a 3 match ban, and make it clear that cheats will be punished from now on!...

BUT if he's punished and the likes of Drogba, Robben and Ronaldo continue to go unpunished, then it's a disgrace.

Time will tell, I suppose. Although, I seriously doubt Eduardo will be banned... it's probably all talk as usual

when a Arsenal player (or lets say a non- English player) attracts so much criticism when a dive from the crown prince of English football (Rooney) is never even mentioned. Rooney dived blatantly against Arsenal to end the most magnificent of unbeaten runs.

I don't remember it being mentioned anywhere with such venom. i don't see Rooney mentioned amongst the likes of Nistelrooy and Pires. I agree that diving is wrong, and should be considered cheating, but it's disgusting that after all the diving around by gerrard and rooney for their clubs, now they finally have an arsenal player clearly diving, all of a sudden its a big deal. Looks like its going to be another season of the media overreacting to everything negative about arsenal while turning a blind eye to the other teams. Don't they ever tire of this. More Johnny foreigner bashing. Will you be as scathing when Gerard or Rooney dive? I despair

The way I see it Eddie was trying to be 'clever'

I've watch the hightlights this morning and watching it live at normal pace it looked a Pen. In fact every angle it looks a pen except the one from the same side of the ground.

It's easy to jump out of the challenge even if touched. No longer do you see a player in the box get fouled and try to ride the challenge. The greater advantage is to claim the penalty.

Therefore watching the highlight from the better angle Eddie only simulated the foul which was going to happen.
The problem with this inciddent is that Eddie was 'out foxed' as Borac pulled out of the challenge which now highlights Eddie as blatatly diving.

Interestly enough the referee was on the 'good' side of the challenge.

Radford cannot believe that people would want an Arsenal player to be banned. Ed did NOTHING wrong, gaining an advantage is PART of the game and it is naive and pathetic to think otherwise.

Radford does understand your point (but thinks you are wrong) but he is very much against video evidence.

I don't WANT him banned... but if it's the start of the use of video evidence to stop cheats, then fair enough. I'm not totally in favour of video evidence either, but as long as there's consistency in it's use, then I can live with it.

It won't happen though, and it'll all blow over after the press have had their say.

I can't understand why there is such a fuss over it

I like your way of thinking NBG.

For those that remember this is factor that helped us win the title back in 1991 when we were deducted 2 points for the hangbags at OT.

As mentioned the key in consistency. We had a similar situation a number of years ago where Cashley got suspended for using foul and abusive language towards a referee. At least that set the precedent and everyone now gets charged when caught giving them abuse

Arsenal should employ someone to catalogue all controversial incidents in the Champions League and Prem. When a potential charge is levelled at us like this, we just produce the evidence (to both the governing body and the media) that others are being treated differently. It would soon show up any inconsistency and reflect badly on the disciplinary process.

It’s no good Wenger complaining about Babel now, that is water under the bridge but if they do go after Eddie we need ammunition to fight back.
