Eduardo Goal
Im NOT a proud Englishman anymore..And havent felt proud with this country for a few years now..I guess thats why i havent got too excited by our footie team winning.
Lets face facts..It was a very poor group.
They will be screeming from the rooftops saying the world cups ours.
And when we get there we will crap out bigtime...AGAIN!.
Just watch how many of our bigtime charlies pull out of friendlies
leading up to the finals.
I HOPE IM WRONG THOUGH.

I've followed England to two World Cups, One Euro Champs & I've been a member of FA Fans.
But tonight, when Eddie scored, I cheered for Croatia.
But not just because he scored.
I am sick and tired of the moronic attitude of both the England players and the media (mainly ITV & SKY.)
Not only are the media slightly deluded about our own technical abilities, but they suck the life out of every event by over-hype and headline news.
I am embarassed by today's England players. They have too much money, too much praise/press worship and absolutely no intelligence or subtlety in their actions. I feel absolutely nothing for them and the fact they wear the England shirt I love, makes me feel gutted.
So, I'll see youi all in SA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(no, honestly, I will be going...but only for the weekend!)

I agree Robsy that the press/media have built up the England team to ridiculous levels but they do it in every "celebrity" walk of life.
It has been long known that that they build them up so when they fail or fuck up they can knock them as hard as they can.
But then if we are going to complain about certain players being put on pedastals then maybe none of us should have enjoyed The Cesc Fabregas Show on Sky a couple of years ago hey?
I just find it a very sad state of affairs, and indicative of England as a country, that we cheer on the opposition instead of our own.
Why does this not happen in say cricket? Lots of us here like cricket but we didn't give a fuck what county the players represent when we won The Ashes recently. Others on here like rugby but they had no problem cheering on The British Lions, a team packed full of what are usually the opposition.
I can understand to an extent why some people do not like international football as it breaks up the season, players get injured etc etc. What I cannot get my head round is why they feel the need to celebrate someone scoring against their home nation just because he plays for Arsenal. Do you honestly think that Eduardo was thinking about Arsenal while playing for Croatia last night? No, he was proudly representing his country. Do you think he would have given two fucks if Croatia had knocked England out again and so stopping Walcott, a team mate at Arsenal, going to the world cup? Of course he wouldn't. So why cannot supporters have the same attitude and have the common sense to differentiate between club and international football?
I'm not stupid. I can see how Arsenal players scoring for thier respective countries can benefit us as it can help with confidence etc and so I am pleased to see Bendtner score, Fabregas playing and scoring as well as Arshavin getting good write ups for his performance last night. However, it is what they do week in and week out in an Arsenal shirt which counts and no amount of international gooals actually does anything for Arsenal, no points and no moving through a qualifying round.
There are plenty of other nationalities on this forum and while some of them may take the piss out of their national sides due to their poor standard I don't see the Irish hoping they lose or the guys from Israel or Poland for that matter! Do the Americans want to see their team fail? No, they take a bit of pride in their team regardless.
Like I say, I see the lack of pride in the national team as indicative of us as a nation and that being so it is no wonder England is turning to rat shit!

But surely this works both ways Percy. It is up to the players as well to bring a certain amount of professionalism to the England set-up. Not to mention they also need to act in a way which commands respect.Percy Dalton wrote:Like I say, I see the lack of pride in the national team as indicative of us as a nation and that being so it is no wonder England is turning to rat shit!
The current generation of England players I have a personal dislike for but it isn't this alone which has alienated me from following the National team. That seed was sewn back when Beckham and Owen used to pick themselves because Eriksson didn't have the balls to drop them when they weren't even fit enough to play 60 minutes. When 11 subs were used per game. When players were pulled out of friendlies with phantom injuries.
I would find it pretty easy to seperate club matters from national matters if I didn't dislike the players so damn much. In previous years I could support the likes of Pearce, Butcher, Beardsley, Barnes, Platt and Shilton in the England side. It could even stretch to Lineker, Waddle, Gazza from the shite.
But today's England players, I just disdain them as people. They live in a different world and their attitude stinks. Absolutely stinks. It's turning me away from club football too. I'm sure a few more years of picking up the papers to read about roastings, or speeding bans and god knows what else and that'll probably be me done with football.
Wembley was at pretty much capacity last night, bar the club bollocks, so in the main the team still have a good backing. It's such a shame that the team isn't packed with a more worthy bunch of players for such support. I'm sure as much as the American's get behind their team, if the majority had the same attitude as many of our players there would be a fearsome backlash against them. Not just from the fans but from the governing bodies.

I see where youre coming from Gus but i think the comparisons you make with cricket and rugby are easily explainable. I think in those sports the international teams are number 1 where the football the club sides are as an example (not sure what cricket counties or rugby teams you like) but say i will lose no sleep if Essex or Saracens lose in a cup final but if Arsenal do i will. The passion for cricket or rugby is no n existant compared to football.
The problem i have is wanting Terry, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard and the rest to fall flat on their arses every week and then "turning" that feeling off for the few days of the year when they play for England... I cant do it. I remeber England playing Colombia in the 98 world cup and feeling hollow being happy that Anderton and Beckham had scored.
I think this is an Arsenal thing though as West ham and sp*rs fans i work with love the national team but i cant have that interest

Only kidding!

I would say though that Cricket and Rugby are not as tribal as Football, for them the international game is the big thing, for football fans it is usually the club game that matters most.

I was proud we had seven English internationals in our team! Seriously. Now days, I don't think I would be...Percy Dalton wrote:I agree that it could be an Arsenal thing Flash and due to the lack of English or home grown players at our club.
I remember Arsenal fans being very proud when we had seven players (I think that is right) in one England starting line-up in the early 90's!

uummmm i wanted crotia to winrichpye wrote:Percy,
I'll be honest I like watching seeing all our players doing well. I wouldn't overly celebrate an Eduardo goal against England but I am pleased to see any of our players do well.
BTW, has anyone seen Bendtner score a goal like the one at the weekend for Arsenal?

I was at Wembley again last night and after standing through near enough 65mins of some mancunian retards behind me give eddie shit i went up when he scored. F*ck em all
Was hardly gonna change the result, England were cruising at 4 nil and eduardo ran his bollocks off all night so as a proud gooner i cheered when he got the better of the retard down the road and smashed it home.

Percy i agree with lots you say but can i just say that not
too many years ago a one STEVEN GERRARD crapped out in the world cup finals(i think)because his mind "WASNT IN IT" because he didnt know whether
to join chelsea or not.
SCANDALOUS!....AND when theres a piss poor friendly coming up,All the usual suspects pull out with AHEM "INJURIES".
Thats totally wrong and if i was the manager of England i wouldnt play them in games like last night, when suprise suprise there were NO injuries leading up to the game.
They were glory seeking last night.
Heres what i think will happen in SA..We will draw or lose the 1st 2 games and ALL the injuries will happen leading up to the 3rd group match.
PLEASE GOD IM WRONG....But i havent felt much for the English team since the Bobby Robson era...SORRY.

I'm joining this discussion a little late, so instead of quoting someone, I'll just briefly put my views across...
1. I don't like friendlies and qualifiers as they break up my love affair with Arsenal. It's an enforced break, and I'm too love struck to properly appreciate the national team between August and May.
2. The World Cup and Euro's are great. It's the summer, so no Arsenal... and I can get 100% behind England.
3. I'm a MASSIVE England fan, and the pain of being knocked out of recent World Cups is still there, and I would LOVE to see us triumph in South Africa... and other than Spain, I see no reason why we can't!
4. As a Gooner, I do find it hard to "love" Rooney, Cashley, Terry, etc. but at the end of the day, the World Cup is not simply about those 11 *word censored* (10 if Theo plays
)... it's about national pride and patriotism. It would be very, very special to win the World Cup and I would love to experience that one day, and I think it's very sad if English football fans actually want to see us fail. That's just alien to me
5. Like it or not, it's players like Rooney and Terry who will win England the World Cup, so I'm not about to cut off my nose to spite my face, and hope we fail as it would be bitterly disappointing for me, and my country.
So, fuck Rooney, Cashley and Terry.... Imagine the pride and happiness winning the World Cup would bring YOU, Your family and your friends!
If that isn't reason enough to put team rivalry to one side, then I don't know what is.

I always have and always will put My Team "Arsenal" before country (Ingerland
).....and last night only - not that it needed to - confirmed to me that for me that is how it should be....
The ingerland fans reaction and attitude towards Eduardo - was simply indicative of the Xenophobia that is rank in the british media and in the FA itself.....it FUCKING Stinks......
The booing of a Player not just because he has dived ONCE - But because he is 'a Johnny Foreigner' - Yup! he aint't White - like shrek - he ain't ingerlish - like shrek - who as we all know IS a serial diver and cheat - who not only dives and cheats with free reign - but continually verbally abuses the officials at EVERY Single (prem) game....and why is nothing done - because he's the Great (aka: FAT) White hope of the ingerland team....a team that have an appalling record considering the 'talent' available to the manager....
As long as the FA and Press do Nothing about the likes of rooney cheating and abusing officials, it will be seen as being perfectly alright for the likes of such (Ingerlish) players to also do the same...Gerrard - another great white hope...DIVER!!!, but NOT foreign players such as Eduardo.
I thought Eduardo showed great composure and restraint last night - especially when johnson knowing full well that he could have kicked the sh*t out of Eddie in front of the ref,,,,and NOTHING was going to be done....a stone wall pen...and the spineless ref bottles it....
EDUAAAAAAAAAAAARDO!!!!!!!
