I had the same problem when booking my chelski tickets yesterday. I put the verified by visa password in and it said there was a problem with the expiry date - I tried again with a different card and it worked first time.

Not building your own box office could be one reason, but the main reason to go w Ticketmaster is usually that Ticketmaster pay huge advances to venue operators (stadiums, concert halls etc) to get the *exclusive* rights to sell tickets for the venue.
