Your"e right rebel
Lehmann has been a great keeper for us but who wants to remember him for a final season of mistakes. Fabianski would have to play if both Lehmann and Almunia were injured. I say give him a go.
Congrats on the big I,000 always entertaining.

Sorry but I will never be persuaded that Almunia is anywhere good enough to be number 1 at a club of Arsenal's standing!
C'mon we should have a goalkeeper of international pedigree hey! Well how close is Manuel to the Spanish squad? I would suggest Cesc is closer to playing in goal for Spain than Blondie!
The difference between a decent keeper and a world class one is the prescence and assurance he brings to the team ala Seaman, Schmeichel and in his pomp Jens! Lets be honest how assuring is Manuel?
If this is the end of Jens then we need to buy!

Well here we go
Alex Manninger , Fabian Carini ( fuck knows what happened to him he was supposed to come here on loan in 2002 and he did play in a friendly game then he fucked off. He was the uruguay keeper ) Paul Barron , Rami Shabban .
As for Geoff Barnett my only vague memory of him is diving too late to try and save Leeds United's winning goal in the 1972 FA Cup Final !

does sound good, don't it?U.F.G Anfield '89 wrote:registering a coach as a player, not a bad idea. Bob wilson anyone? why stop there, steve bould, pat rice and liam brady are on staff.

I just don't get the fact Sunderland pay £9m for a goalkeeper then register a 44 year old coach as one

We could even bring back Giles Grimandi after all he proved he still got it

I'd pick Jens with 2 broken legs & 2 broken arms before I would have almunia as our number 1. I really really hope for Jens sake(as well as ours of course) that jens isn't going 2 bow out with us as our number 2 or 3 keeper or after having a poor season cos he deserves better than that. Have 2 say that I think Wenger has boxed himself into a corner(again!!) with the goalkeeping situation - what was the point in signing fabisinski and putting him in as number 3 keeper ? He cannot now drop jens to 3rd choice, cannot promote fabisinski above almunia so basically the pole is stuck as our 3rd choice for the forseeable future unless injuries are kind to him. I have always felt that the area of goalkeeping has been Wenger's biggest weakness as he has shown himself in the past to be too loyal to some(seaman), doesn't trust younger keepers(manninger) and appears unsure in his quests to replace keepers. I always thought that we should have made a move for the worlds number 1 keeper(casillas) cos I felt that madrid were mad keen to get buffon but are afraid to oust casillas cos of fans reaction so selling to us would have been mutually beneficial plus casillas would have fiited in with our young team ethos.
Wenger is now saying that he is nowhere near to signing any other player much less a keeper. In a squad that is so threadbare I find this both amazing and depressing and am really beginning to question the whole "Arsene Knows" mularky.

Agreed againAugie!
I read a piece by Bob Wilson once and he said the one thing Wenger knows nothing about in football is goalkeepers!
He said that Wenger had no faith in any of the youngsters he was bringing through and was always trying to buy from abroard keepers of the same age but no more ability. He said both Taylor and Stack had the raw ability to be Arsenal goalkeepers but their confidence was knocked by the way they were treated and those extra years of being held back were the reason they never cracked it at the top flight.
He even hinted that these differences of opinions were one of the reasons he jacked it in and that he thought Gerry Peyton as our goalkeeper coach was laughable. Apparently Peyton through away the whole schedule that Seaman had worked too and which had been adopted by many other clubs and put in place a vastly inferior alternative. So much so that Jens has for the last few years followed his own ideas about training sessions and what he needs to do.
I must admit I did think we would have maybe bought in an experienced replacement for Jens this summer. He has been great for us but at 38 he cannot be anything other than in decline.

It is difficult to say with Taylor and Stack, Taylor is fantastic if your being heavily outplayed but not so good otherwise while Stack was never that good. Wilson sounds a little better to be honest, he may be right but he may also be quite wrong, I think whoever replaces Jens in the long term will show. If Fabiskini proves to be a great keeper then Arsene, if we struggle for keepers then Wilson.
Also didn't Jens credit his return to form a few years back due to the staff changing his training regime?
