BEST SEAT AT THE GROVE

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I sit North Upper in line with six-yard box. Seat is basically £45, so cheap.

Singing round us is really good and much better than last season. Another good thing is that hardly anyone moved this season, so everyone is getting to know each other better.

Sat at the other end of the ground for one Champs League game, South Upper to the left of the away block. The atmosphere was surprisingly rubbish, all we could hear were the away fans singing, constantly and no-one in our area wanted to start up a song or join in. However, it wasn't a bad view.

His seats are in Club Level, Yellow area (I refuse to use the Americanism "Quadrant" ) about ten rows back. The sky box is just to our left. The view is awesome, the punters around us are mostly singers too which is good but there are a couple of sit-down-leave-early's too. We usually have no probs getting people up on their feet and singing! :P 8) The stewards are a bit dick-like if you try to take a photo even in the general direction of the poxy sky box, but are pretty lenient as far as standing and singing/dodgy chants go. 8)

Matt Lucas from Little Britain and Audley Harrison sit near us. Both are sound enough.

Still, having said that, I was quite shocked to see sizeable gaps appearing in the lower tiers before half time and again before full time on Sunday... :?
I use my uncle's season ticket up there, must sit quite near u, we have ainsley harriot sitting on the next block ot the left - unless matt lucas has moved cos he used to sit down from us, we're by the corner flag (kind of), and yes alot of people come and go early/late, pisses me off, and stewards tell me to sit down etc. but ive managed to get a few people singing and generally a few do get involved. I was sitting ext ot a kid with an inflaable shrek toy, its given me an idea for the spudz game!!

Do people get the big fella confused with that chef and ask him to russle up a quick pheasant stew for half-time (at which point he thumps them)?
Ha! No, can't say I've heard (or seen) that yet.

But Lucas gets a few punchlines thrown at him. Seems to ignore most of it and takes it on the chin (oo-er missus).

Yeah, Matt Lucas would be more your block alright, but I did only say near us. We're to the left of you. Harriot would be a bit behind and right of us (I think). Our seats are just to the right of the bar entrance/exit beside the sky box and we too have a few corporate dinks, but not too many.

One of them (a mouser corporate guest) gave out to my mate and his bro at the mouser game last season when we were singing "Sign on, sign on..... with a pen in your hand etc...".

She yelped "Get your own song!" to which our lad replied "Get your own f*cking seats!" 8)

Yeah ainsleys one of the prawn sandwich brigaders - someone who sits near me had a spare ticket cos a mate let him down, and tried to get soemone to take the seat for free (yeh i know) and managed to pcik a guy who had just come out of jail for a 10 ear stratch for armed robbery!! Anyway he was black and saw ainsley walking thru a half time, and shouted:
"Oi Ainsley!! Yous hould be doing the cooking here! it's shit!!'
Which i found very amusing.....
I had a couple of scousers next to me last year, but what pissed me off most was the west ham game- there were more west ham fans in club level than arsenal supporters - that my friends is a fucking disgrace

Wenger's dugout seat looks pretty good to me...

Well, compared to sitting in front of a television in the early hours of the morning anyway...

Tom

Did any of these away fans get thrown out? Were they actively supporting their team? Did our fans complain?

It would be interesting to know.

Galasso,
quick answer is no - i remember being at the league cup final against the chavs and when they scored, a chelski fan was actaully in our bit and celebrated, and nearly got beaten up, and was asked to leave by stewards (which he eventually did).
I really was upset about the hammers game - i think club level gets an unfair name when it comes to leaving early, free drinks, arriving late etc. cos i see it happening in every section, its just that club level is that bit smaller so its more noticeable. What pisses me off most is these twats give out their tickets to office mates/pals who support other teams - why they couldnt give it to arsenal fans is beyond me - quite sickening and then it dampens the atmosphere (which isnt the best regardless). The hammers game was just disgusting, wathcing many hammers fans in club (and diamond) level celebrating, and i just thought; "you (club level plastics) dont have a clue: a). how lucky u are, b). how many genuine fans would give to watch just one game let alone a whole season, c). what ur doing to the atmosphere and d). wasting ur money when u cant be bothered to turn up" - i could go on
No one near me complained, but i was told on several occassions to sit down (even by some twat who was a gooner) by stewards, and i just asked them why i wasnt allowed to get behind my team, yet they allowed hammers fans to celebrate and chant in club level. No response and they didnt bother me after that. So thats why i think club level let themselves down - giving tickets to away fans, that simple

I remember both of the incidents
I saw the cup final one spark off & up till now i didn't know what the problem was
& with the Hammers game that was fing stpuid as it had to be that day when all there fans came round to the Emirates & they win
I met Dicko's friends who were in the club level bit but they seemed to be a nice bunch who sing & clap for the Arsenal which i'm glad some fans are doing rather than sitting on there arses etc etc
It's not just the Arsenal we have the PS bit as Wembley suffers it as well, much more
Soon enough if Arsenal decide to extend the stadium they would prob want to make club level bigger & not care for me & you :(

Cheers Tom

Would I be wrong to summise that if the same number of hammers fans were in the lower tier and acted in the same way, they would be treated differently? The club perhaps do not want to upset those who have paid club level and exec prices? And assume there is not much chance of trouble in club level.

I would assume that many of those club level tickets may have been bought by corporates who use these tickets as incentives, after which they inevitably find their way into the hands of the fans of whichever club's team are playing.

For me, it's just another case of the club treating the home fans worse than away fans, which is a perverse reversal of experiences at every other ground.

[quote="RaM"]Wenger's dugout seat looks pretty good to me...

Must be one hell of a seat - he even sees incidents resulting in our players being sent off. It must be the best seat in any stadium in Europe!

My seat is Upper Tier, Row 23 and it's like watching Subbuteo.
